Airgas Production Operator III (Open) Location: Sacramento, CA (Plant) - Acetylene production & filling

Overview Airgas is hiring for a Production Operator III in Sacramento, CA.

Responsibilities

Safely handle and fill gas products into liquid, medical, and high‑pressure gas cylinders per federal, state, and local regulations and Airgas standard operating procedures.

Monitor equipment to fill industrial gas mixes, cryogenic gases, and medical gas products; conduct Level 1 & 2 duties.

Inspect cylinders prior to filling, following standard procedures from government, Airgas, and distributor standards.

Conduct safety checks (odor tests, caps, valves), analyze product purity and correct mixtures.

Handle high‑pressure, medical, and liquid cylinders; prepare cylinders and cryogenic vessels for filling; attach to manifold, evacuate cylinders, fill by pressure and weight per regulations.

Assist with loading & unloading cylinders on and off pallets and tractor trailers; operate forklift, pallet jack, and other warehouse equipment.

Manage paperwork to DOT, FDA, OSHA, and Airgas standards; complete quality control sheets as required.

Understand hazards of gases; read and interpret cylinder labels and color‑coding; accurately label cylinders.

Comply with all government and company standards relating to safe handling of hazardous materials/cylinder gases.

Maintain a neat, clean, and orderly plant appearance.

Perform any reasonable work request that falls within the qualifications but is not specifically described.

Required Education

HS Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Required Experience & Training

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Forklift certification.

FDA and Food Grade Training.

CGMP.

Acetylene 101 Training (specifically for Acetylene).

Minimum of 1 year of prior related manufacturing experience; filling or loading experience.

Completed training and proficient in filling all cryogenic liquids as well as all pure industrial gases; Acetylene experience may be required depending on location.

Strong background in gas, welding, safety supply, or chemical industry preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSA)

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to read and comprehend material safety data sheets.

Ability to work with a wide variety of people with different personalities and backgrounds.

Excellent customer service skills.

Ability to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines.

Strong attention to detail.

Proficiency with basic arithmetic in all units of measure (whole numbers, common fractions, decimals).

Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.

Ability to safely operate a forklift.

Compensation Hourly base pay: $23.50/hr. Pay for performance bonus may apply. Pay range subject to qualifications, experience, market, and business considerations.
