Benefits Analyst

Reporting to the Human Resources Director, this position oversees the administration and management of the town’s benefits program, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and company policies. The Benefits Analyst will assess current benefit offerings, monitor industry trends, and propose competitive packages to attract and retain top talent. Responsibilities include processing payroll deductions for new hires, terminations, and open enrollment changes; maintaining accurate benefit records; advising employees on their options; conducting benefits audits; managing projects such as 1095-C reporting, opt-out programs; and uploading open enrollment data into the payroll system. The ideal candidate will organize staff workshops to improve benefits communication, evaluate wellness programs to reduce health insurance costs, and stay updated on legal changes related to salaries and leave policies.
In addition to working in the Human Resources Department, this position provides administrative support to the West Suburban Veterans District (WSVD) for approximately 15 hours per week. Responsibilities include assisting clients with appointments and benefits payments, supporting budget development, maintaining financial records, coordinating informational seminars, preparing meeting agendas, posting notices, and taking minutes at WSVD meetings.
The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, with three to five years of experience in benefits administration, including health, retirement planning, and leave management. Strong spreadsheet skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office (specifically with VLOOKUP, pivot tables and formulas in Excel), and familiarity with payroll and HR data systems are required. Knowledge of COBRA, FMLA, and other federal and state laws governing benefits is essential. The ability to work independently while maintaining accuracy and organization in a fast‑paced environment is key to success in this role. Familiarity with MUNIS is a plus.
