Position Information Title: Outreach Advisor
Department: Student Success Division, Montana State University-Northern
Job Type: Classified, Academic Year (9‑month grant funded)
FTE: 0.475 (19 hours per week)
Hourly Pay: $22‑26 per hour
Benefits: No benefits package is included.
Supervisory Duties: No supervisory responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with program recruitment and provide application assistance to eligible veterans.
Maintain accurate participant student files in the online Blumen student database.
Assist with database entry and maintain confidential files.
Conduct intake processes, complete individualized education plans, and pre‑testing; upon completion, conduct exit interviews and post‑testing.
Provide college preparation and transition assistance to and maintain a caseload of approximately 80 veteran students in the western part of the state.
Assist students with career counseling, assessment and advising, financial literacy and aid, veteran benefits, college admissions, and mentoring.
Refer and help register students for VUB refresher classes, tutoring, workshops, and events.
Monitor student progress and ensure complete and appropriate record keeping of student and project performance.
Help coordinate activities for student retention and graduation, including social‑cultural events, campus events, orientation, graduation, etc.
Assist current students with veteran service referrals as needed.
Assist in the development of promotional and applicant materials (brochures, posters, videos, newsletters, flyers, and student applications).
Maintain university, community, and veteran service organization relationships and attend outreach events.
Assist with the Annual VUB Performance Report.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, teaching, or a related field.
At least two years’ experience working with different populations, preferably veterans.
Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and database management, preferably using Blumen.
At least two years’ experience in student advisement (academic, career, financial aid, and admissions counseling).
Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
Excellent networking skills and the ability to multitask in the coordination of multiple sites in the region.
Experience and knowledge of college student support services, including student advisement, financial aid, career services, and campus veteran‑related services.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge or willingness to learn about VA benefits, organizations, and community services.
Prior TRIO experience.
Teaching experience.
