Job Summary The Associate Dean of Students/Director for the Office of Community & Ethical Standards provides senior leadership to the department and directs the University's disciplinary and community standards programs. Provides objective content expertise in development and execution of all related policies and processes. Ensures compliance with all applicable policies, guidelines and laws. Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Duties
Student Conduct Process Management (35%):
Directs and manages the process(es) for the administration of cases in compliance with applicable sections of the Clemson University Code of Conduct, including the Student Discipline Process, Appeals Process, Student Conduct Records and Conduct of Student Organizations.
Supervision and Leadership (30%):
Manages staff and oversees all levels of operations for disciplinary process and community standards in the Office of Community and Ethical Standards. This includes staff supervision, budget management, assessment, and daily operations.
Training, Outreach, and Education (20%):
Ensures a training system for staff to ensure they are knowledgeable and offering best practices when providing services. Leads the coordination and presentation of education programs to campus and community stakeholders regarding University expectations related to student standards of behavior and conduct.
Crisis Response and Committee Involvement (15%):
Serves as part of the Dean on‑call team and serves on divisional and university committees as requested.
Minimum Requirements
Master’s Degree and experience in student services programs.
Six or more years in higher education or as a legal practitioner.
Preferred Requirements
Doctoral / Professional Degree in higher education or a Juris Doctor.
Eighteen or more years of experience.
Responsibilities
Comprehensive Job Knowledge:
Comprehensive knowledge of theories and practices and ability to use them in complex, difficult, and/or unprecedented situations.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manages work of others, including hiring, terminating, training, developing, reviewing performance, and administering corrective action for staff. Plans organizational structure and job content.
Budgetary Responsibilities:
Responsible for developing one or more departmental budgets. Estimated amount of budgetary responsibility in dollar amount must be added.
Physical Requirements:
Walk or move about; communicate, converse, give direction, express oneself; recognize or inspect visually; perceive, observe, clarity of vision.
Working Conditions:
Overnight travel; some night and weekend work required.
Work Schedule:
Standard Hrs: 37.5.
Compensation Information:
Expected Salary Range ($69,765.00 – $110,000.00). Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.
Essential Personnel Level:
Essential Level 2 employee – required to maintain/resume essential support functions, deliver direct care services, and/or provide recovery support before normal operations resume. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on-call.
