Golf Course Superintendent – Skaneateles CC
Founded in 1915, Skaneateles Country Club (SCC) is nestled on the shores of picturesque Skaneateles Lake, in the heart of Central New York's renowned Finger Lakes region. With its crystal‑clear waters, stunning views and small‑town charm, the village of Skaneateles offers not only a vibrant community and highly ranked school system, but also convenient access to major metropolitan areas including New York City, Boston, Montreal, and Toronto. SCC is a thriving, vibrant club with a diverse membership. Its lakeside setting, beautiful facilities, friendly members and employees create a world‑class member experience. Recent capital investments include a state‑of‑the‑art Rain Bird irrigation system and a new fleet of John Deere equipment. SCC is in the early stages of developing a golf course master plan with famed Golf Course Architect Lester George.
The Club has 650 members in all classes of which 460 are full golf members. While the Club is open 9 months a year, most of the revenue is generated during the summer months. The Club features a variety of dining options for members, ranging from casual to traditional club dining, as well as waterfront dining and event space. The 18‑hole golf course hosts more than 16,500 rounds annually, from early spring through late fall. In addition, the Club offers four tennis courts along with a wide array of boating, sailing and waterfront amenities.
Job Description The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the successful operation of the Greens and Grounds Department. This includes providing agronomic direction to maintain the golf course at the highest quality possible, implementing procedures and programs to uphold SCC’s standards of healthy turf and consistent playing conditions, and training and developing the greens and grounds team. The GCS prepares an annual budget and works to achieve financial goals through accurate forecasting, effective expense control, and efficient labor management.
The Superintendent works closely with the General Manager on capital improvement expansion projects and interacts with the golf staff to maximize the number of rounds of golf played, scheduling maintenance practices around member play and club outings to maximize efficiency. The Superintendent is responsible for hiring, training and developing all staff, ensuring compliance with OSHA, club safety, state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions. The GCS will serve on the Club’s Golf and Greens & Grounds committees as an ex‑officio member and reports directly to the General Manager.
Job Requirements
3-5 years of experience in golf course maintenance management
Minimum two‑year degree in Agronomy
Valid Pesticide applicator’s license required
Advanced knowledge of regulatory requirements and recordkeeping in compliance with local, state and federal laws
Diplomatic team player with the ability to build and maintain relationships with members, employees, partners and guests
Competitive Compensation and Benefits The compensation package will be commensurate with the experience level of the selected candidate with a salary range of $120,000 to $140,000. The Golf Course Superintendent position is a twelve (12) month position. Annual performance bonus up to $10,000; participation in individual and family health insurance, dental and vision plans; coverage of GCSAA dues and approved continuing education expenses; participation in the Club’s Simple IRA plan; cell phone allowance; use of Club vehicle; access to Club facilities; provided meals.
