Responsibilities:
The Manufacturing Engineering role is responsible for driving manufacturing performance through strategic leadership and targeted improvement initiatives. This position leads efforts to enhance throughput, minimize inventory levels, and lower operating costs. The individual will engage and guide team members in reducing labor expenses by applying cellular manufacturing techniques and introducing innovative methods and equipment. The role also includes analyzing data to identify inconsistencies, implementing corrective actions, documenting technical findings and reports, and maintaining effective customer relationships both internally and externally.
- Customer Liaison: Interprets and communicates customer specifications, ensuring technical and operational alignment. Serves as the main contact for customer technical requirements both inside and outside the organization.
- Creative Facilitator: Promotes problem-solving and cultivates an environment that encourages innovative thinking and continuous improvement across technology, processes, and methodologies.
- Boundary Spanner: Acts collaboratively across departments and functions to remove silos and barriers; supports the overall success of the organization by taking a holistic approach and fostering interdepartmental cooperation.
- Developer: Coaches and mentors engineers and team members of all levels to foster professional growth, encourage knowledge sharing, and ensure success across manufacturing and automation teams.
- Communicator: Handles challenging conversations tactfully, sets and clarifies expectations, simplifies complex topics for broader understanding, and provides detailed insights when needed.
- Influencer: Builds an engaging and motivating environment, represents business priorities effectively, practices approachability, and manages conflict constructively.
- Business Minded: Focuses on initiatives that produce measurable business results, championing quality and managing customer demands while maintaining balance and strategic boundaries.
- Adaptable: Responds effectively to change and unforeseen challenges, maintaining focus on key objectives and addressing issues swiftly to keep operations on track.
- Provide technical leadership to both manufacturing engineering and automation teams.
- Mentor and develop engineers to strengthen technical capabilities across the department.
- Align engineering objectives with production, quality, and overall business goals.
- Partner with cross-functional teams—including Quality, Maintenance, Production, and Supply Chain—to address and resolve technical challenges.
- Develop, refine, and optimize casting processes for consistent, high-quality product output.
- Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for process variations or yield losses.
- Employ Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to minimize scrap and enhance throughput.
- Identify, evaluate, and integrate emerging technologies such as additive manufacturing for tooling/cores or artificial intelligence for process monitoring.
- Recommend and manage equipment upgrades or automation improvements to optimize process stability and operational efficiency.
Location: Whitehall, MI
Schedule/Shift Details: First Shift
- Overtime as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Operations Management from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a relevant manufacturing engineering role.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; employment verification required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven experience in Continuous Improvement, Waste Elimination, and Kaizen initiatives.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, including proficiency with 5 Whys, Trucker’s Log, and A3 Thinking.
- Demonstrated leadership ability to cultivate an engaged and high-performing workforce.
- Skilled in delivering professional presentations and addressing inquiries from customers, leadership, and peers.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints and familiarity with CAD design tools.
- Experience in conducting time studies, setting labor standards, and identifying opportunities for new equipment integration in a manufacturing setting.
- Technical leadership capability to guide and support manufacturing operations effectively.
- Previous experience within the investment casting industry preferred.
- Solid financial acumen and business understanding.
