Location: Libertyville, IL 60048
Hire Type: Direct Hire
Salary: $110,000 – $120,000

We’re seeking a hands-on CNC Manufacturing Engineer to lead engineering support on the production floor and drive machining efficiency across the organization. This role is ideal for an engineer who is comfortable programming, optimizing, and troubleshooting CNC operations, working directly with G-code, and partnering closely with value stream teams to improve throughput, quality, and delivery performance.
You’ll own process improvements, support day-to-day manufacturing challenges, and lead initiatives that advance Lean, automation, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, modify, and optimize CNC programs using AP100 or similar G-code platforms.
  • Support machining operations on the floor—troubleshoot programs, tooling, setups, and process issues in real time.
  • Improve manufacturability of parts through toolpath optimization, fixture design, and cycle time reduction.
  • Collaborate with production teams to resolve engineering and machining challenges quickly and effectively.
  • Lead continuous improvement and Kaizen events to drive Lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Create and maintain manufacturing process documentation including work instructions, routings, and program standards.
  • Monitor productivity, quality, and throughput metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure on-time project delivery for both internal and external customers.
  • Train and mentor operators and team members on CNC programming and best practices.
  • Promote a safe, clean, and well-organized work environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Process Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • 10+ years in a manufacturing environment with strong exposure to CNC machining.
  • Proficiency in G-code programming (AP100 or similar).
  • Experience with SolidWorks for prints, models, and manufacturability.
  • Strong understanding of Lean manufacturing, process flow, and continuous improvement.
  • Proven ability to lead floor-level engineering support and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in cross-functional teams
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with CNC machine setup, tooling selection, and fixture design.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, laser cutting, or punching preferred.
  • Familiarity with GD&T and print interpretation.
  • Background with automation, robotics, or Industry 4.0 initiatives.
  • Experience optimizing cycle times, feeds/speeds, and tool life.
  • Ability to analyze machining data and leverage metrics for decision-making.
  • Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems for routing, BOMs, and work orders.
  • Experience leading capital equipment upgrades or process technology improvements.
  • Exposure to AP100, SigmaNEST, Mastercam, or similar CAM software.
  • Understanding of quality systems (ISO, PPAP, SPC, Cpk, control plans, etc.).
