Full-Time (Exact schedule to be confirmed during interview - 1st shift 7am - 3pm) Position Overview We are seeking an experienced
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
to provide comprehensive psychiatric care to an
inmate population
within a correctional setting in
New Haven, Connecticut
. This role includes both acute and ongoing psychiatric care, with a strong emphasis on assessment, stabilization, and continuity of treatment. The PMHNP will work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary behavioral health team to support individuals with serious mental health needs, including those presenting with
suicidality, psychosis, or acute psychiatric decompensation
upon entry into the correctional system. Key Responsibilities Provide psychiatric care to the inmate population, including acute and ongoing treatment Conduct
initial psychiatric evaluations
and comprehensive mental health assessments Diagnose mental health conditions and
prescribe psychiatric medications
as appropriate Perform acute care evaluation and treatment for individuals entering the correctional system who present with
suicidal ideation, psychosis, or severe psychiatric symptoms Stabilize patients and coordinate referrals for aftercare, either: Within the facility (outpatient services), or To facilities providing ongoing intensive outpatient or higher-level psychiatric services Collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team, including: Supervising psychologist Mental health nurses Behavioral health clinicians Maintain timely, accurate clinical documentation in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements Required Qualifications Active
Connecticut APRN license Board Certification as a
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) DEA registration (or ability to obtain) Experience providing psychiatric care xsgimln in
correctional, inpatient, acute, or community behavioral health settings
preferred Strong clinical judgment, assessment, and crisis intervention skills Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary treatment team Work Environment Structured correctional healthcare setting Focus on acute stabilization, safety, and continuity of psychiatric care Team-based clinical model with strong interdisciplinary collaboration ESJJP2 Job Types: Full-time, Contract Benefits:
