Full-Time, Exempt ____________________________________________________________________________________ Position Summary: The APRN provides comprehensive, patient-centered medical care to individuals receiving substance use disorder (SUD) treatment in residential and outpatient settings. The APRN collaborates with an interdisciplinary treatment team to assess, diagnose, and manage medical and psychiatric conditions related to addiction, withdrawal, and recovery, while promoting safe, evidence-based, and compassionate care. Job Duties: Conduct comprehensive medical and psychiatric assessments for new admissions and ongoing patients. Diagnose and treat acute and chronic medical conditions commonly associated with substance use disorders. Manage medication-assisted treatment (MAT) including buprenorphine, naltrexone, and other approved therapies in accordance with state and federal regulations. Assess and manage withdrawal symptoms using established protocols (e.g., CIWA, COWS). Order, interpret, and review laboratory tests and diagnostic studies. Provide follow-up care, medication adjustments, and ongoing monitoring for residential and outpatient clients. Evaluate medical emergencies and coordinate referrals for higher levels of care when necessary. Collaborate with outside physicians, nurses, counselors, and case managers to develop and implement individualized treatment plans. Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and case reviews. Provide medical clearance for admission, continuation, and discharge when appropriate. Support continuity of care and coordination with external providers, pharmacies, and referral sources. Maintain timely, accurate, and thorough medical documentation in the electronic health record (EHR). Ensure compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards (e.g., DEA, SAMHSA, HIPAA, CARF/JCAHO if applicable). Adhere to facility policies, procedures, and clinical protocols. Educate patients on diagnoses, medications, treatment options, harm reduction, and relapse prevention. Promote wellness-oriented care and patient engagement. Provide trauma-informed, culturally competent, and nonjudgmental care. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits. Contribute to policy development, clinical guideline updates, and staff education as needed. Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to nursing and clinical staff. Qualifications: Required: Current, unrestricted APRN license in the state of practice. Active DEA registration and eligibility to prescribe controlled substances. Experience or strong interest in addiction medicine and substance use disorder treatment. Knowledge of MAT, withdrawal management, and co-occurring disorders. Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred). Preferred: Previous experience in substance use treatment, behavioral health, or psychiatry. Familiarity with residential treatment, intensive outpatient (IOP), and outpatient programs. Experience with EHR system (Credible behavior health) and interdisciplinary team-based care. Skills & Competencies: Strong clinical judgment and assessment skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Compassion, professionalism, and commitment to recovery-focused care. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Work Environment: Combination of residential treatment facilities, secondary care, and outpatient clinic settings. May include on-call responsibilities, flexible scheduling, or weekend coverage depending on program needs. Work closely with the Director of Nursing to meet all medical needs of participants. Exposure to patients experiencing acute withdrawal, psychiatric symptoms, or medical complications related to substance use.
