The Vice President of Production is responsible for end-to-end production execution across global operations. This role owns production planning, factory allocation, timelines, logistics coordination, quality control, costing oversight, and compliance to ensure on-time delivery that meets customer, margin, and quality expectations.
This leader directly manages the Costing function and oversees the overseas office in Vietnam, ensuring alignment across regions, consistency in execution, and accountability to company standards. The role requires strong judgment, operational discipline, financial rigor, and the ability to anticipate and resolve risks before they impact delivery, margin, or revenue.
The Vice President partners closely with Design, Sales, Technical Design, Logistics, Finance, the Costing team, the Vietnam office, and external factory partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and manage the full production lifecycle from programming through warehouse receipt.
- Partner with Technical Design on all execution-related issues.
- Partner with executive management on factory allocation, production planning, capacity, delivery challenges, and margin implications.
- Stay informed on global events and macro risks that may impact supply chain continuity.
- Provide accurate, reliable delivery dates and production feasibility guidance to Sales.
- Track deliveries to ensure goods are received into the warehouse in time to meet customer cancel dates.
- Attend all production line reviews and ensure notes and action items are executed across all regions.
Costing Ownership & Margin Accountability
- Directly manage the Costing team and all costing-related workflows.
- Own costing accuracy from initial development through bulk production.
- Ensure costing reflects true production realities, negotiated pricing, freight, duties, and margin targets.
- Partner closely with Finance, Sales, and Design to support margin goals and pricing strategy.
- Lead factory cost negotiations in partnership with executive management.
- Ensure costing calendars align with production and development timelines.
Overseas Office Leadership (Vietnam)
- Provide direct leadership and oversight of the overseas office in Vietnam.
- Ensure the Vietnam team is fully aligned with U.S. production strategy, standards, calendars, and.
- Leverage the Vietnam team to support factory management, costing execution, production tracking, quality control, and issue resolution.
- Ensure seamless handoff and collaboration between NYC-based teams and the overseas office.
Time & Action (TNA) Planning
- Develop and maintain annual TNA calendars for Production Planning and Design (including sweaters).
- Ensure TNA calendars are adhered to across Production, Costing, and the Vietnam office.
- Proactively adjust timelines when risks arise and clearly communicate impacts to leadership.
Process Improvement & Systems
- Lead continuous improvement of production, costing, and reporting processes in partnership with IT.
- Write and maintain clear production, costing, and factory process documentation.
- Maintain care instruction charts and ensure factories are working from current documentation.
- Directly manage and develop the Production leadership team.
- Directly manage and support the Costing team.
- Provide hands‑on backup across all production functions when required, including production tracking, costing approvals, and factory issue resolution.
- Build a high‑accountability, solutions‑oriented culture across domestic and overseas teams.
Factory Sourcing, Vetting & Capacity Planning
- Source and vet new factories on an ongoing basis.
- Request pricing, send styles, and evaluate factory capabilities.
- Build and maintain strong, collaborative factory relationships.
- Ensure factories are properly supported with tools, timelines, and clear expectations.
- Conduct factory capacity planning and make capacity commitments in partnership with the Vietnam office.
Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
- Ensure all factories remain compliant with company and customer requirements.
- Maintain and update customer requirement charts for Packing, Labeling, RFID, and Customer‑specific standards.
Product Testing & Quality Control
- Oversee damage control and chargeback processes.
- Confirm all required garment and fabric testing is completed and passed.
- Ensure all final Tech Packs are released on time.
- Confirm BOMs are released on time and that trims are ordered and lab dips approved.
Qualifications & Experience
- 10+ years of senior production leadership experience in apparel manufacturing.
- Demonstrated experience managing costing teams and owning margin outcomes.
- Proven experience leading overseas production offices, preferably in Vietnam or Southeast Asia.
- Deep knowledge of factory sourcing, capacity planning, logistics, compliance, and cost negotiation.
- Proven ability to manage complex calendars and high-volume production programs.
- Strong systems experience (PLM, Simparel, Airtable, or equivalent).
- Confident, decisive leader with a proactive, solutions‑driven mindset and strong cross‑cultural management skills.
