growing mechanical contractor in the Bay Area

that specializes in delivering

plumbing and HVAC solutions for complex commercial and industrial construction projects.

As the organization continues to expand its in-house engineering and design capabilities, they are seeking an experienced

Plumbing Design Engineer

to support design-build work from early concept through construction and closeout.

The

Plumbing Design Engineer

will be responsible for

designing complete plumbing systems, producing construction-ready drawings, and coordinating closely with project managers, engineers, and field teams.

This role is critical to ensuring systems are code-compliant, efficiently designed, and fully coordinated with other trades.

Key Responsibilities

Design plumbing systems including domestic water, sanitary, storm, and specialty piping systems

Develop detailed construction documents using Revit and AutoCAD

Coordinate plumbing designs with HVAC, electrical, structural, and architectural disciplines

Perform system layouts, pipe sizing, and equipment selection in compliance with applicable codes

Support design-build projects by collaborating with project managers and field teams

Participate in design reviews and address constructability and coordination challenges

Maintain accurate documentation, revisions, and as-built drawings throughout the project lifecycle

Assist with RFIs, submittals, and technical clarifications as needed

Required Qualifications

5+ years of experience as a Plumbing Design Engineer

Strong proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD

Working knowledge of California plumbing codes and local jurisdiction requirements

Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings

Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams

Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Preferred Skills

Design-build project experience

Familiarity with BIM coordination and clash detection processes

Experience working alongside field installation teams

Knowledge of sustainable or high-efficiency plumbing systems

Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT a plus, but not required
