GenAI PhD Applied Scientist - Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)
Join Oracle as a PhD Applied Scientist on the Generative AI Service team. This fully in‑office role is available in our Austin, Nashville, Santa Clara, or Seattle hubs. The ideal candidate will graduate with a Doctorate by December 2025 or within 12 months of the start date.

About the Team Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) builds enterprise‑grade cloud services with a startup speed and enterprise focus. The Generative AI Service team develops massive‑scale cloud services that leverage state‑of‑the‑art machine learning. The team works on Generative AI Applications, Agentic Platforms, Reasoning & Planning, Retrieval Augmented Generation, Generative AI Evaluation, Responsible AI, Models’ Verticalization, NL2Code/NL2SQL, Multimodal GenAI, Speech, and more.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with product managers to translate business and product requirements into AI projects.
Collaborate with fellow technical leaders to ensure timely delivery of models and integration of services.
Coordinate global teams from in‑depth research to production‑ready code.
Develop new OCI services leveraging recent advances in generative AI, machine learning, and deep learning.
Design and review the architecture of generative AI, including data, model, training, and evaluation.
Lead and mentor junior and senior machine learning engineers.
Develop production code and advocate for best coding and engineering practices.
Participate in project planning, review, and retrospective sessions.
Identify and mitigate risks, especially at the intersection of business and engineering.
Integrate evaluation capabilities and explore emerging technologies.
Required Qualifications
PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Linguistics or related field with dissertation/thesis focused on Machine Learning and Deep Learning by December 2025.
Strong programming skills in Python and experience with TensorFlow or PyTorch.
Deep technical understanding of ML and DL architectures such as Transformers, training methods, and optimizers.
Practical experience with recent LLM and generative AI technologies (parameter‑efficient fine‑tuning, instruction fine‑tuning, advanced prompt engineering, Tree‑of‑Thoughts).
Hands‑on experience with emerging LLM frameworks and plugins (LangChain, LlamaIndex, VectorStores, Retrievers, LLM Cache, LLMOps, LMQL, Guidance, etc.).
Background in NLP and/or Computer Vision with experience in research and development.
Hands‑on experience in ASR, TTS, S2S translation, conversational AI, or related NLP topics.
Analytical and problem‑solving abilities in AI/ML or speech/language processing domains.
Experience designing data collection/annotation solutions and systematic evaluation for production systems.
Commitment to staying up to date with academic advances and applying them to business problems.
Strong publication record as lead author or reviewer in top‑tier journals or conferences.
Residence in the United States and/or attendance at an American university.
Able to obtain U.S. work authorization in 2025.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of LLM and experience delivering Generative AI and Agent models.
Experience with vision and multimodal modeling.
Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms and architectures.
Open‑source contributions to the AI/ML community.
Minimum 3.0 GPA.
