Job Title: OSP Engineer
Location: Walnut Creek, CA or San Jose, CA (Hybrid)
Travel: Local travel required (typically within 50 miles); mileage reimbursed
Base pay range $60.00/hr - $65.00/hr
Overview We are seeking a OSP Engineer (Fiber Design) to support end‑to‑end fiber planning, permitting, and construction coordination. This role requires hands‑on field work, strong collaboration with city agencies, and the ability to work closely with internal engineering and construction teams. Candidates should be comfortable using fiber design tools, mapping systems, and engineering applications.
Key Responsibilities
Develop fiber design plans, route engineering, and construction drawings.
Coordinate permitting activities with city and municipal agencies.
Conduct on‑site field assessments to validate fiber routes and construction requirements.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including engineering, construction, and external vendors.
Utilize design and mapping tools such as 3GIS, Canvas, Google Earth, ArcGIS/ESRI, and related applications.
Maintain accurate documentation within engineering systems and databases.
Apply knowledge of right‑of‑way, property rights, and permit acquisition processes.
Required Skills (Must‑Haves)
Fiber Plant Design (3–5 years):
Experience designing fiber routes, underground/aerial plant, and construction drawings.
Telecommunications / Network Engineering (3–5 years):
Background in telecom, data networking, or wireless infrastructure.
Advanced Computer & Mapping Skills:
Strong proficiency with databases, engineering applications, and digital tools (Word, Excel, Visio, ArcGIS, ESRI, 3GIS, Google Earth, etc.).
Desired Skills
Experience with municipal permitting and environmental review processes.
Familiarity with construction practices for fiber deployment (underground & aerial).
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and redlines.
Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
Education & Certifications
Required: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, GIS, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
Desired: Certifications in fiber engineering, GIS systems, or related technical disciplines.
