Job Summary
Under the direction of SPD leadership the incumbent assists in carrying out the responsibilities for the overall workflow of the shift. Incumbent decontaminates, operationally checks, assembles, sterilizes, and distributes surgical instrumentation, implants, supplies, and equipment throughout the Medical Center. Incumbent maintains documentation related to these duties and assists in the training of other Sterile Processing Technicians. Incumbent troubleshoots equipment, instruments and customer issues. Incumbent operates and maintains sterilization equipment, decontamination equipment and computer systems related to these duties. Incumbent participates in performance improvement planning and implementation. This position requires the flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
Salary Range

Required Qualifications
High School graduate, G.E.D. or equivalent
Possess and maintain current certification as a Sterile Processing Technician through an accredited organization (CRCST- Certified Registered Central Service Tech, IAHCSMM, or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician CBSPD).
A minimum of three (3) years of previous Sterile Processing technician experience
Knowledge of all areas in SPD including:
Decontamination
Inspection, Assembly & Packaging (all service lines)
Sterilization of Packaged Medical Devices
QC & Sterilization record keeping
Distribution of Sterile Products
Preparation, Build and QA of Case carts
The ability operate machinery including sterilizers, washers and ultrasonic cleaners
The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
Good communication and customer service skills
Demonstrated leadership abilities
Basic knowledge of computer systems including Windows OS, keyboard and mouse operations.
Demonstrated ability to competently perform multiple, complex tasks.
Detailed knowledge of medical terminology, departmental policies and procedures, and regulatory standards and leading industry practices.
Knowledge of standard precautions for safety and prevention of cross contamination
Detailed knowledge of sterilization and cleaning equipment
The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
The ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to communicate with nursing, technical, and medical staff
The ability to safely move heavy trays and equipment, lifting up to 50 pounds, and stand for prolonged periods of time
Preferred Qualifications
Previous lead or supervisory experience in a sterile processing setting
Five years of experience as a SPD Technician
License/Certification
Current Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Tech (CRCST), IAHCSMM or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT), CBSPD
