POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Quality Assurance is responsible for developing and executing a quality assurance vision for the Shaklee organization at our Groveport facility. This on-site position ensures that the Quality Assurance group maintains a superior level of excellence throughout the supply chain for all products manufactured for Shaklee, and that all products meet Shaklee Quality Standards, established regulatory standards as well as industry best practices. This position is also responsible for ensuring that new product development meets Shaklee Quality Standards, partnering with Research & Development and Technical Operations to provide independent approval of trial results, prototype samples and finished good samples. The position will be responsible and/or support for the quality management system and oversight of five unique quality workstreams including: the bottle packaging line, QA of personalized customer orders (both manual and automated packaging), the assembly of international products and marketing kits, finished good and bulk product releases, and Canada QA. Additionally, the Director of Quality Assurance will be integral in collaborating with Shaklee Operations when adding workstreams such as the integration of merger and acquisition assets. The position will work closely with internal, cross-functional teams to understand the business priorities and requirements for Shaklee. Additionally, the Director of Quality Assurance will partner closely with the Quality Systems/Compliance team and the Technical Operations team to identify problems with the potential to adversely impact the quality standards of Shaklee products and come up with solutions to resolve the problems. The position will also work closely with external, contract manufacturers and suppliers, and will develop relationships with them to enable mutual understanding of expectations, deliverables, and issue resolution. Other responsibilities include providing general QA Department support to the day-to-day activities at our Groveport facility, making final decisions that may impact the supply chain, and managing personnel at our Groveport facility. Essential Functions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Achieves quality assurance operational objectives by contributing information and analysis to strategic plans and reviews; implements expectations for contract manufacturers’ quality-management systems during production of Shaklee products. Determines system improvements; implements change through training, documentation, and awareness. Accomplishes quality assurance human-resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures. Meets quality assurance financial objectives by working closely with the Shaklee’s VP, Global Quality to prepare annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions. Develops quality assurance plans by conducting risk assessments; identifying critical control points and preventive measures; establishing critical limits, monitoring procedures, corrective actions, and verification procedures; monitoring inventories. Reviews and approves documentation; component, raw material, and product specifications; finished good specifications, master manufacturing records, executed batch records for OTC products, and all quality SOPs. Is a Key Contributor during product launches, through collaborations with cross-functional teams, close communication with manufacturers prior to and during first productions, and works with timelines to ensure product testing and documentation meet set expectations for release. Maintains and improves product quality by managing a product-release program, collaborating with Shaklee’s Quality Systems/ Compliance team for a manufacturer and supplier audit program, and by assisting in the investigation of customer complaints. Prepares monthly quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends including failed processes, stability studies, recalls, corrective actions, and re-validations. Updates job knowledge by studying trends in and developments in quality management; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations. Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. Provide QA support to internal customers. Other related duties, as required and assigned. Position Requirements
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of 10 years of experience in the FD&C industries, with 5 years of combined experience in production and QA/QC. A minimum of 7 years of progressive supervisory experience A minimum of Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Science or Engineering. An understanding of quality technology at a level normally acquired through completion of a CQE certification program desired. Experience with development of specifications, and standard operating procedures. Must take the lead, partnering with the Quality Systems/Compliance Sr. Manager in managing site Regulatory Agencies’ inspections. Solving complex manufacturing, testing and compliance problems. Positive, collaborative attitude with effective and professional interpersonal skills to work in cooperation with the Operations, Tech Ops and R&D teams, as well as with third-party manufacturers. A comprehensive knowledge of cGMP requirements for FD&C products and a practical understanding of statistical methods. Must be able to travel by air or automobile on short notice and be able to access equipment in a manufacturing plant environment. Travel may be up to 20% or more, as needed. Requires the ability to resolve complex technical and regulatory issues and work extended hours/days when necessary to support changing business requirements. Must be able to attend weekly online meetings during hours consistent with our California Operations team (EOD PST). Must be able to provide remote support, when necessary, when away from the office, as needed. Hands‑on knowledge of and proficiency with computers, word processing, spreadsheet and statistical programs. (MS Office and Shaklee utilized software) Must work and conduct self in a professional manner under pressure at a level acceptable to Shaklee management. Must work effectively, collaboratively and professionally with internal and external co‑workers, peers and business partners at a strategic and tactical level acceptable to Shaklee management.
