Lead Middleware Engineer

at TekSynap supporting the Department of Transportation. TekSynap is a fast-growing high-tech company that provides information management for federal government customers. Responsibilities

Work closely with the Development, Server, DB, and other teams to deliver available and reliable infrastructure support for DOT’s web application solutions. Join the Middleware team to leverage technologies from Cold Fusion, Docker, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Oracle, Red Hat, and VMware in our IT environment. Support legacy middleware footprint by establishing well-designed architecture and tooling to support feature functionality in a scalable, stable, and well-managed environment. Participate in a 24x7 on-call escalation rotation (every 2–3 months) to support server infrastructure. Maintain and improve the existing middleware infrastructure, troubleshoot incidents and outages, manage risk, and increase performance and efficiency. Collaborate with business architects to develop middleware configurations and serve as an escalation point for middleware issues. Assist the Application team with troubleshooting application outage issues and provide guidance during outages. Act as a subject matter expert in middleware, proposing architectural improvements and streamlined processes. Monitor middleware patching and upgrade recommendations from OEMs. Execute maintenance and tuning for middleware systems (e.g., load balancing, configuration management, initialization parameters). Maintain consistent middleware parameters and system settings across all similar instances and implement middleware management tools across all instances. Apply middleware patches as required through the development to QA to production life cycle. Provide hosting operations and engineering support for web middleware components and offer training as required. Maintain and update environmental documentation, standard operating procedures, and engineering documentation. Perform other tasks as directed by Lead Engineers or Project Manager. Required Qualifications

Must have a minimum of 8 years of related experience providing business solutions engineering support, including architectural design, engineering design, pilots, analysis, and documentation. Experience with Apache Tomcat, WebLogic, Oracle application server, Oracle SOA, PHP, Python, IBM Infosphere, Node.js, Microsoft .NET, IIS, and RedHat JBoss. Web server – middleware integration with Microsoft IIS, Apache Tomcat, and Apache HTTPS; Database – middleware integration with Oracle and SQL. Cloud integration – middleware integration with AWS and Azure. Server administration elements as related to middleware applications; ability to configure and manage middleware across multiple environments. Strong ability to lead research, analysis, and recommendations for Tech Refresh in middleware; experience with middleware management tools and RMS/RA processes. Experience with root cause analysis, risk identification, and mitigation; demonstrated ITSM experience in fast-paced environments. Knowledge of networking concepts related to web applications (TCP/IP, ports, routing, DNS, etc.) and understanding of Oracle/SQL databases in physical and cloud environments. Understanding and ability to configure application middleware settings per Federal Guidelines including DISA STIGs. Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 experience; VMware vSphere and Hyper-V virtualization experience. Benefits and Environment
