Job Description: Senior OSP Engineer

Overview At Ziply Fiber, our mission is to elevate the connected lives of our communities every day. We deliver high‑speed fiber internet in the Northwest and are expanding across WA, OR, ID and MT. We are seeking a Senior OSP Engineer to lead outside plant projects, ensuring timely delivery within budget and alignment with network modernization, growth, and consolidation goals. This role serves as the subject matter expert (SME) for all technical aspects of outside plant facilities, including cable sizing, cable counts, cable records, and permitting for rights of way (ROW) and easements. The Senior OSP Engineer acts as a SPOC with internal teams, external partners, and vendor resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Support leadership in reporting and escalations.

Provide guidance, support and training to internal FTEs and external vendors.

Proactively review outside plant facilities to determine necessary upgrades and enhancements.

Communicate with states, counties, cities, and national entities to obtain information on planned projects involving growth and changes.

Coordinate with utilities for project design and construction to utilize joint trench where applicable.

Apply for all permits as required (State, DNR, City, County, Townships).

Maintain and investigate ROWs and easements for releases.

Coordinate with peers and departments to ensure proper project planning.

Maintain accurate cable records and update according to as‑builts.

Attend pre‑construction meetings for project designs.

Prepare cost estimates for BDTs (basic design tasks).

Support sales, marketing, operations and regulatory as needed.

Perform other duties as required to support the business and evolving organization.

Mentor and train lower‑tier engineers to increase their technical ability and experience.

Must be available to work regular business hours Pacific Standard Time; on‑call, evenings and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent work experience, or a minimum of three years’ experience in an outside plant position.

Minimum of three years telecommunications outside plant construction project management experience and inventory management experience.

Minimum of three years’ experience in ROW, private easement and permitting with local, state, and federal entities.

Knowledge of outside plant design, cable count layout and capacities.

Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and satisfactory driving record.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of outside plant activity and engineering tools, including Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.

Strong organizational, written and verbal communication and customer relations skills.

Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with engineering team, regional managers, vendors, and technicians.

Ability to manage multiple projects at various stages and meet critical deadlines.

Ability to drive for the company in a safe and responsible manner.
