Job Summary The RN – Emergency Department delivers direct and indirect patient care in a high‑acuity ER setting. RN applies the nursing process to assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate safe, effective care across the lifespan. RN collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, contributes to quality outcomes, and upholds regulatory standards.
Essential Functions
Triage and prioritize patient care based on acuity.
Conduct age‑appropriate assessments and reassessments of all patients.
Administer medications, perform procedures, and manage critical drips.
Assist physicians with exams and procedures in the ER.
Monitor hemodynamic status and interpret cardiac rhythms.
Accurately document care, treatment, assessments, and education in a timely manner.
Apply infection control and sterile technique practices consistently.
Educate patients and families about care plans and discharge instructions.
Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary team for optimal care delivery.
Respond calmly and professionally in high‑stress, life‑threatening situations.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities / Expectations
Knowledge of emergency nursing protocols, trauma care, and critical interventions.
Skilled in interpreting ECGs, managing IVs, and operating emergency equipment.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.
Ability to adapt to rapidly changing clinical situations and multitask effectively.
Proficient in EMR systems and clinical documentation tools.
Able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform extended standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
Demonstrates professionalism, clinical judgment, and a commitment to continuous learning.
Qualifications Education
Associate degree in Nursing required.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Graduation from an accredited Nursing Diploma program accepted.
Licenses / Certifications
Current state RN license or compact state equivalent required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) required within time frame stipulated by facility policy.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required within time frame stipulated by facility policy.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within time frame stipulated by facility policy.
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) required within time frame stipulated by facility policy.
NIH Stroke Scale Certification required within time frame stipulated by facility policy.
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred or required within time frame stipulated by facility policy.
Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS) preferred.
Experience
Emergency nursing experience in an acute care setting preferred.
Demonstrated ability to function under pressure and respond effectively to critical situations.
