Primary Objective:

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Chief Engineer oversees the engineering department day‑to‑day, supports the Director in all maintenance of the hotel facilities (mechanical, landscaping, electrical, plumbing, swimming pools, HVAC systems, painting, locking systems, and related equipment), updates the Director and the Hotel Executive team regularly on all aspects of building maintenance, manages the internal team and outside vendors, maintains the operating budget, assists with major capital expenditures, supports workplace safety, and builds relationships with city departments to expedite permitting.

Responsibilities and Job Duties

Proven experience in an engineering leadership role, preferably as a Chief Engineer or similar position.

HVAC or Electrical certification required.

Strong mechanical knowledge with experience in HVAC systems.

Proficiency in low‑voltage and high‑voltage electrical systems, including logic controllers.

Must be able to troubleshoot and repair routine mechanical and electrical malfunctions in hotel systems and equipment.

Excellent problem‑solving skills with the ability to read and interpret drawings and schematics.

Strong leadership abilities with excellent communication skills to effectively manage a diverse team.

Building and Grounds Management:

Oversee the maintenance of all mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.

Team Development:

Recruit, train, and manage the engineering team to deliver exceptional service in line with the hotel’s

luxury positioning.

Sustainability & Legal Compliance:

Ensure environmentally responsible practices, manage energy consumption, and ensure compliance with

local codes, health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Budget & Asset Management:

Assist with the development of and manage the engineering budget YOY, including

capital expenditure planning (one year & 5‑year) , procurement of materials, and vendor negotiations.

Crisis & Risk Management:

Oversee emergency response plans, safety protocols, and risk management procedures to safeguard guests, staff, and property assets with the support of the Loss Prevention Director.

Leadership:

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Tasks include walking, using hands to finger, handle, or feel; reaching with hands and arms; climbing or balancing; stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; talking or hearing; and tasting or smelling. The employee is frequently required to stand and occasionally sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Special Skills Required

Excellent communicative skills in the written and spoken English language.

Ability to use computers, including but not limited to emails, spreadsheets, and building management systems.

Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of HVAC systems, motor‑driven fans, and pumps.

A working knowledge of the use of hand and power tools used in operating, maintaining, and repairing boiler room equipment, plant systems, and guest room appliances.

Ability to read blueprints and schematics.

Basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing skills required.

Education Required Prefer a bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four‑year college or university.

Experience Required At least 3–5 years’ experience as a Hotel Engineering Leader in a luxury hotel environment.

Salary Range $98,000 – $102,000, Annually

Licenses or Certificates HVAC or Electrical certification required.
