The total hourly pay for this exempt position is $99.43 for up to 40 hours per week. This rate represents the company’s good faith and reasonable estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting. Job Description Cape Fox Facilities Services (CFFS) is seeking an experienced Senior Veterinary Pathologist, Pathology Core Chief to provide services in support of the overall functions of the Office of Chief Scientist - Integrated Research Facility (OCSIRF) within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The Pathology Core will provide Pathology, Histology and Clinical Pathology support for all animal studies performed at the Integrated Research Facility-Frederick (IRF-Frederick). This role also includes support of organoid or organ‑chip research programs. The Pathology team will perform and assist necropsies at IRF‑Frederick, process all collected tissues following accepted SOPs, perform immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization and special stain assays on collected tissue and analyze and interpret pathology slides. The Pathology Core will also provide written reports for all analyses and support manuscript writing as requested. Pathologists within the Core are also expected to pursue their own research interests within the scope of material collected during the course of research activities at the IRF‑Frederick and with the concurrence of the project lead. Manuscripts for any research activities should be written for peer‑reviewed publications and presentation at national and international conferences or symposia.
Technical Requirements
Provide pathology services to support animal studies, such as assist the Federal Task Leader to manage a team of pathology, histology and clinical pathology professionals to support necropsy and histology research efforts.
Responsible for working with research staff to coordinate pathology and histology support, is responsible for postmortem examination (necropsy) in the BSL‑4 containment laboratory, and documentation of gross observations/diagnoses in support of animal studies.
Provides expertise in the following areas: necropsy (examination, data capture, and reporting); histopathology (examination, data capture, and reporting); histology/immunohistochemistry lab operations; histomorphometry operations/analysis; and digital pathology operations/services.
Assist the Federal Task Leader with managing a team of pathology, histology and clinical pathology professionals.
Works with research staff to coordinate necropsies and sample analyses.
Performs and facilitates gross and histologic examination of samples collected during necropsies including special stains, immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization; develops comprehensive written reports.
Additional duties include supporting mission priorities in laboratory setting to complete research studies.

Job Requirements
Must be able to work in a BSL‑4 setting with select agents and be enrolled in the NIAID‑IRF Frederick Biosurveillance program to include passing and maintaining Tier‑III security clearance.
Specific Qualifications
Board certified Veterinary Pathologist (DVM, ACVP); with PhD preferred.
Previous recent biocontainment (BSL‑3 or BSL‑4) experience required; BSL‑4 experience preferred.
Strong leadership and mentorship abilities.
