Assistant Professor Physician Scientist translational research in neurodegenerative disorders
Job Description: Assistant professor, tenure-track, translational research in neurodegenerative disorders. As a faculty member in the Department of Neurology at the Rutgers‑RWJMS, you will conduct translational research exploring epilepsy in neurodegenerative disorders and work to identify risk factors. You will develop new areas of research investigations in collaboration with other members of the Department, especially those in the area of Alzheimer’s disease. You will obtain and maintain extramural funding, publish scientific papers, contribute to the Department’s educational activities, and serve on committees as requested. You will interact regularly with members of the Department of Neurology and the neuroscience communities.
Clinical responsibilities will include outpatient care to an extent permitted by your funded research to evaluate and manage patients with epilepsy, cognitive disorders, and other neurological conditions. You will also serve as attending neurologist on the general neurology service at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital approximately 3 weeks per year. You will participate in the call schedule during weekdays and certain weekends proportionally to your protected research time as determined by the Department Chair. Responsibilities may be amended upon written notification.
The initial workload allocation is: Clinical (cFTE) = 0.2, Research (rFTE) = 0.7, Education (eFTE) = 0.05, Service (sFTE) = 0.05. Educational activities will include mentoring trainees, bedside teaching, and didactic lectures.
Salary and Benefits
Base academic salary: minimum $139,530, eligible for faculty practice.

Qualifications
MD with graduation from an ACGME‑accredited neurology residency, board‑certified or eligible in neurology, completion of a fellowship in neuromuscular disorders or related clinical neurosciences, and eligibility for a New Jersey license.
Ability to secure extramural funding and publish in peer‑reviewed journals.
Strong research and teaching experience.
Immunization Requirements
Prospective employees may be required to provide proof of vaccination against seasonal influenza during flu season unless exempted. Failure to provide proof may result in rescission of an offer.
