Job Description This mechanical design role is a critical position for Nidec Aerospace’s electric propulsion system development. In this role, you will be on a multinational, multifunctional team of engineers supporting the development of the most advanced electric motors on earth. Below are the requirements for this position.
Responsibilities include
Developing advanced electric motors for aerospace applications based on customer requirements. Applicants need to be able to take ownership of conceptualizing system requirements into an airworthy product.
Create 3D models and 2D drawings for production solution requirements, Creo proficiency required.
Make design considerations for mass and topology optimization, structural integrity, thermal optimization, and safety.
Specify required tolerances and critical‑to‑quality features for components and assemblies.
Generate preliminary Bill of Materials (BOM) for product.
Solve mechanical design challenges to improve system performance, based on metrics for: mass, efficiency, cost, durability, reliability, ease of assembly, safety, etc.
Work with Multiphysics team (structural, CFD, thermal) to ensure design meets all internal and external requirements.
Communicate proposed designs to functional groups outside Engineering, both internal and external.
Work directly with external suppliers to optimize designs for tooled components.
Participate in First Piece Article inspection/APQP/PPAP processes for newly specified components.
Participate in technical design reviews for newly developed solutions with cross‑functional teams.
Some travel may be required ( Flexible schedule to accommodate schedules of international teammates where necessary.
Perform these and other duties and responsibilities through self‑initiative, leadership, and collaboration to achieve new product development goals.
Technical Attributes and Experience Required
Ability to work with and learn from a cross‑functional team
Experience with GD&T and tolerance analysis
Ability to learn methods for component and assembly analysis
Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
Effective written and oral communication skills
Creative, ‘out‑of‑the‑box’ thinking
Ability to handle competing demands and support multiple, concurrent programs

Work experience in electric motors and drives or similar industry
Experience with diverse types of metal manufacturing methods
Experience with injection molded parts
Experience with composite manufacturing
Experience using materials common in the aerospace industry
Experience with structural FEA (ANSYS preferred)
Minimum Requirements (proficiency levels aligned to job level)
BS in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
3 years’ experience in electric motors and drives or similar industry
Creo 3D CAD solid modeling skills in supporting new product designs
