Long Island State Veterans Home, Department of General Dentistry – Stony Brook University Schedule
Day Shift: 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday‑Friday (hours vary) Pay
SG 12 Hiring Rate: $40,340 per year (0.80 FTE) Special Notes
This position is filled under the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications and submit proof of credentials with the application. Responsibilities
Clinical duties under the supervision of a licensed dentist, including preventive and therapeutic treatment procedures, restorative care, and emergency procedures. Diagnostic procedures: placement and removal of diagnostic X‑ray films, evaluation of tooth surfaces, and use of rubber dam as applicable. Topical medication: fluoride application, anesthetic and topical medication, polishing of teeth and existing restorations, taking impressions, and placement/removal of temporary restorations. Administrative duties: taking medical history, charting dental caries, teaching proper hygiene techniques, and developing individualized at‑home oral‑hygiene programs. Other duties or projects as assigned per departmental mission. Required Qualifications
Licensed Dental Hygienist in New York State. Completed a Civil Service examination and be listed on the applicable Civil Service list. Minimum of one year of permanent service in an appropriate dental hygiene title. Eligible for non‑competitive NY HELPS appointment (must hold a New York State license and current registration for Dental Hygiene). Preferred Qualifications
