Engineer, Senior Engineer, or Staff Engineer – Reactor Engineering
System One is seeking a
Reactor Engineer
(Engineer, Senior Engineer, or Staff Engineer level based on experience) to support reactor engineering functions at a commercial nuclear power plant in Jenkinsville, South Carolina. This position performs complex engineering work requiring in-depth technical knowledge, sound judgment, and experience supporting nuclear operations with a strong emphasis on safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.
At higher levels, this role provides technical leadership, mentors less experienced engineers, and serves as a subject matter expert on reactor engineering, design, and regulatory matters.
Key Responsibilities
Support reactor startup testing, including physics testing and data analysis
Monitor reactor core performance and provide recommendations for operational improvements
Participate in refueling outage planning and execution, including fuel shuffle planning and post-outage verification
Support fuel movement planning, new fuel receipt inspections, and fuel handling activities
Interface with Operations, Maintenance, and Regulatory organizations to ensure compliance with safety and licensing requirements
Maintain and improve reactor engineering tools, methodologies, and procedures
Review and evaluate design changes and modifications
Provide technical guidance and oversight to less experienced engineers, as applicable
Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience Experience Level Requirements
Engineer:
2+ years of engineering experience
Senior Engineer:
5+ years of engineering experience
Staff Engineer:
8+ years of engineering experience
Technical Experience
Reactor Engineering and/or Core Design experience
required
Experience with flux mapping, reactivity management, startup physics testing, and online core monitoring
preferred
Experience supporting refueling outages and fuel handling activities
highly preferred
Familiarity with Westinghouse 3-loop core design and BEACON™ software
preferred
Nuclear Experience
Minimum of
1 year of nuclear power plant experience required
Education & Engineering Criteria Candidates must meet
one
of the following requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Nuclear preferred) from an
ABET-accredited
program
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from a non-U.S. institution accredited under the
Washington Accord
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Math, or Engineering Technology
plus
a post-graduate Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited institution
Current or previously held
U.S. Professional Engineer (PE) license
