Working Hours:
7am - 3:30pm, Monday - Friday. Overtime as needed.
Project Overview The Material Handler transports and manages materials within facilities to support production and operations. Responsibilities include loading, unloading, and moving materials to designated locations, maintaining accurate records of material movements and inventory, inspecting materials for quality and reporting discrepancies, operating forklifts and other material handling equipment, and following safety protocols and guidelines during operations. Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, experience in material handling or logistics roles preferred, certification in operating material handling equipment is a plus, strong attention to detail, and physical stamina.
Job Functions & Responsibilities
Operate reach stacker and forklift to move, stack, load, and unload containers, materials, and equipment.
Perform pre-operation inspections and routine maintenance checks on equipment.
Collaborate with logistics, ground crews, and supervisors to meet daily handling and shipping goals.
Ensure compliance with safety procedures, company policies, and equipment regulations.
Inspect incoming shipments for damage or discrepancies, report, and coordinate resolutions.
Verify and keep records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepare items for shipment. Inputs all shipment information into ERP computer system.
Compare identifying information and counts, weigh or measure items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
Determine method of shipment, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates. Make carrier arrangements when necessary.
Affix shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons, using stenciling equipment.
Assemble wooden or cardboard containers or select preassembled containers.
Insert items into containers, using spacers, fillers, and protective padding.
Nail cover on wooden crates and bind containers with metal tape, using strapping machine.
Post weights and shipping charges, and affix postage.
Unpack and examine incoming shipments, reject damaged items/goods, record shortages, and correspond with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.
Participate in physical inventory and inventory reconciliation exercises to meet overall inventory accuracy goals.
Route items to various internal departments and kanban areas for manufacturing projects.
Examine outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
May operate forklift truck or use hand-truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.
Other duties may be assigned by management to meet business needs.
Pull and kit parts for the assembly team to assemble projects/orders.
Required Characteristics
Prior production and inventory control experience helpful.
Forklift certification.
Reach Stacker or Crane certification.
Desired Characteristics
Must be familiar with ERP systems. SAP knowledge a plus.
Calculate surface, volumes, weights and dimensions of packaged equipment or components.
Ability to learn and follow defined departmental policies, procedures and practices.
Must be able to make decisions with regards to completion of tasks and job methods and follow through with results of outcome.
Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Must be able to interact with and communicate with internal customers. Internal customers may include production, engineers, and management personnel.
Requirements
High school diploma or GED.
1–3 years of experience operating reach stackers and forklifts; valid certifications required.
Familiarity with shipping/receiving processes and warehouse operations.
Attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
Physically able to lift up to 50lbs and work in warehouse environments.
