Summary
Responsible for preparing tissue specimens by processing, performing microtomy, and mounting on glass slides for microscopic examination and analysis. Essential Functions
Processes, embeds and sections tissue for slides. Embeds control tissue and cuts control slides to maintain adequate control library. Performs preventative maintenance and quality control procedures, including oiling and cleaning microtomes, cleaning processors, and changing staining solutions. Ensures appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to maintain employee safety at all times. Maintains case identification and ensures appropriate tracking throughout entire process to ensure patient safety. Observes hospital and laboratory policies and safety practices and maintains a safe, clean and prepared work area. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards. Must possess fundamental knowledge of basic histotechnique to include fixation, decalcifications, processing, embedding, routine and special stains and frozen sections. Must be able to perform certain special stains (i.e. Oil Red O). Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills. Participates in relevant continuing education programs. Physical Requirements
