The bell captain is primarily responsible for welcoming all guests to the hotel as well as bidding them farewell. The bell captain trains and assists with escorting guests to and from their rooms, orienting them with the property, assisting the guest in any way to make them feel more comfortable and aware.

Responsibilities

Train new bell staff on hotel policies and guest service standards.

Create work schedules and assign tasks to bell staff.

Monitor performance, provide coaching, and conduct performance reviews.

Conduct pre-shift briefings to delegate responsibilities.

Greet guests and coordinate luggage handling upon arrival and departure.

Escort guests to their rooms, explaining hotel amenities and services.

Handle guest inquiries about local attractions, dining, and transportation.

Provide information about the hotel, its layout, and services.

Greet VIP guests and handle special requests.

Assist in resolving guest concerns and act as a liaison to management.

Open vehicle doors for guests and aid in the removal of luggage and personal belongings.

Drive vehicles to designated areas and safely park.

Record parking spots and place guests’ keys in a safe location.

Retrieve vehicles when guests are ready to leave.

Direct traffic in the valet area and sometimes in parking lots.

Help guests secure taxis or find their rideshare vehicles.

Coordinate with other departments like the front desk and housekeeping.

Manage group arrivals and departures, including luggage tag preparation and porter assignments.

Ensure the prompt and proper handling of all guest luggage and deliveries.

Maintain the cleanliness and order of the bell stand, bell carts, and luggage storage areas.

Maintain accurate records of luggage storage and other requests.

Assist with special events and other duties as requested.

Qualifications

Proficient in English

Ability to stand on your feet for several hours

Must be able to push/pull luggage carts

Must have a valid driver's license

High School diploma

Previous guest service experience preferred

Excellent communication skills
