MAINTENANCE WORKER I [FLSA: non-exempt; SHIFT: Sun - Thurs., 40 hrs/week]

MAINTENANCE WORKER I – City of Oviedo
(FLSA: Non‑Exempt; SHIFT: Sun – Thurs., 40 hrs/week)
EMERGENCY STATUS* : REQUIRED TO REPORT – Must be on duty outside normally scheduled hours for natural disasters, emergencies, rotational on‑call assignments, or critical incidents as determined by City Administration.
Performs semiskilled work on a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair projects. Operates equipment as required and performs related tasks under regular supervision. Duties include maintenance of City facilities, parks, landscaping, and building structures.
Installs, repairs, and maintains irrigation systems and park facilities.
Maintains City buildings, benches, tables, and trash receptacles.
Installs, repairs, and maintains fences, landscaping, sod, drainage, facilities, walkways, and other public‐use areas.
Mows and maintains grounds of assigned areas, prepares fields, and repairs equipment.
Ensures grounds, right of ways, and facilities are free from debris; restrooms are clean and adequately supplied; trash is emptied.
Assembles and uses small tools and materials required for assigned tasks.
Operates tractors, mowers, backhoes, and other equipment and hand tools in performance of tasks.
Serves as personnel during special events and after natural or man‑made disasters and emergencies.
Performs related tasks as required.
Must be at least 18 years of age. Requires a minimum of three months experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, irrigation, or closely related fields. Requires a valid driver license (must obtain a Florida driver license within 30 days of employment).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the safe use, operation, and preventive maintenance of assigned equipment.
Skill in the use of assigned equipment.
Ability to understand and follow specific oral and/or written instructions.
Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions.
Ability to lift heavy articles and perform essential job tasks quickly and efficiently.
Ability to read and write in English.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
Ability to work varied shifts according to the needs of the department.
