Job Description
This position carries out those activities required to maintain and correct damage and make repairs to physical buildings, structures, and facilities as well as maintain and repair machinery, equipment, and cleaning equipment of assigned facilities.
Additionally, this person will perform a variety of work involving equipment use such as scissor lifts and regularly work from ladders.
Responsibilities This role includes the following core responsibilities:
Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
Current electrician's certificate of fitness is preferred.
Regular day shift, M‑F but position may involve on‑call, night, weekend work or emergency call outs as needed.
Escort and/or assist other subcontractors/facilities techs, regardless of skill set/trade, to include but not limited to any other subcontractor working in our facilities.
This position may require approximately 70% travel out of Anchorage area to other Alaska locations. Some overnight travel is required.
Repairs damage to walls and flooring.
Repairs door locks and exit hardware.
Minor plumbing repairs.
Repairs conveyor belts and systems.
Drywall installation/repairs, painting.
Carpet installation/repair.
Move equipment/furniture when required.
Cleans work area, tools, and equipment.
Supervise staff as needed.
Other duties pertinent to the department or unit’s success may be assigned.
Qualifications Requirements are as follows:
A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
5 years of directly related facilities and/or building maintenance experience with electrical experience.
State of Alaska electric‑engineers’ license/certificate of fitness is preferred.
Valid Alaska Driver’s License with three (3) years acceptable driving record to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.
Must be available for after‑hours emergency calls as needed.
Must be able to work well with others as directed and be a team player.
Be able to work independently and prioritize workload.
Must have some experience to assume a supervisory role and/or job site lead technician.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Weather: Indoor/Outdoor – occasional exposure to harsh weather conditions; requires work to be done both inside and outside.
Noise level: noise level in the work environment is usually that of a standard office atmosphere.
Description of environment: Office building with standard office environment.
Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
Travel: Employee may travel up to 15% of the time to remote locations.
