Medical Collections Specialist
Are you a persistent problem-solver with a "detective mindset" for resolving unpaid claims? We are seeking a dedicated Medical Collections Specialist to play a vital role in our financial health.
In this position, you will be the bridge between patient care and financial sustainability. We need someone who understands the complexities of ICD-10 coding and insurance denials, but who also possesses the empathy and negotiation skills to work effectively with patients. If you are a high-energy professional who takes pride in reducing $A/R days and ensuring every claim is resolved accurately, we want you on our team!
Compensation & Schedule Salary: $22 - $26 per hour Shift: First Work Hours: 8 AM - 5 PM Education: High School
Responsibilities
Claim Resolution:
Identify and resolve non-payment trends, focusing on aged accounts receivable ($A/R$).
Payer Liaison:
Communicate with insurance carriers to overturn denied claims and process appeals.
Patient Negotiation:
Reach out to patients to establish payment plans and collect outstanding co-pays or balances.
Documentation:
Maintain meticulous records of all collection efforts and insurance correspondence.
Compliance:
Ensure all activities adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).
Core Skills & Qualifications
Industry Expertise:
strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding.
Software Proficiency:
Experience with Medical Billing Software (e.g., Epic, eClinicalWorks, or NextGen).
Communication:
Ability to handle difficult conversations with empathy and professionalism.
Analytical Thinking:
A "detective mindset" to find out why a claim was denied and how to fix it.
Experience:
Minimum 2 years in medical collections or billing.
