Fleet Services Mechanic

What you will be doing:
Perform skilled mechanical equipment repair work involving overhaul and repair of gasoline and diesel powered automotive assets, emergency response vehicles, refuse trucks, heavy equipment and related components. Responsibilities include preventative maintenance, safety inspections, tire repair, outfitting City vehicles with specialized equipment, modifying, fabricating and welding equipment and parts, researching and contacting vendors to obtain parts, maintaining tools, and keeping the shop area clean and orderly. Work is performed with substantial independence under the guidance of the Director of Fleet Services and is reviewed for quality and timeliness.
What you need to have
High School Graduate or G.E.D.
Four (4) years of work with heavy gasoline and diesel equipment at Journeyman level including experience as an automotive mechanic and use of all the latest testing equipment. Successful completion of technical school training in gasoline and diesel engine repair may be substituted for up to two (2) years of experience.
Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with Air Brake endorsement; Class A preferred.
Certified Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Automotive or Medium/Heavy Duty technician required; ASE Master Technician in one or more fields preferred.
Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Certification preferred.
Certificates for acetylene, arc, MIG and TIG welding preferred.
Current First Aid certification preferred.
What you get Starting salary range: $63,853 – $76,624 depending on qualifications; plus excellent benefits.
