JOB SUMMARY

Provides engineering support and moderate system redesigns to enhance the reliability and operational performance of building environmental systems, including HVAC, humidity control, lighting, and building management systems across both guest‑facing and back‑of‑house facilities. Evaluates the condition and performance of critical infrastructure such as chiller plants and boilers, and recommends appropriate maintenance strategies, repairs, replacements, and capital improvements. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, system redesign, programming of building automation systems, and overseeing testing and commissioning of implemented solutions. All work is performed in compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards, including ASHRAE, ASME, ASTM, ANSI, NEC, and OSHA.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct evaluations of existing and proposed building environmental systems to enhance reliability, occupant comfort, and operational efficiency. Perform energy audits and retro‑commissioning of facilities to identify opportunities for performance improvement and cost reduction. Support asset management programs by evaluating mechanical system performance, identifying lifecycle needs, and prioritizing capital investments to ensure reliability, efficiency, and long‑term value across facilities.

Manage assigned projects from concept through completion, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, construction oversight, system testing, and stakeholder training. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with operational goals.

Provide technical troubleshooting and diagnostic support for HVAC systems across the facility, serving as a subject matter expert (SME) for the Duty Engineer program and supporting first responder operations to ensure timely resolution of mechanical systems issues.

Interface with Facilities Supervisors, Managers, technicians, and internal departments to resolve operational challenges and coordinate engineering activities. Facilitate effective communication and alignment across teams.

Collaborate with vendors and equipment manufacturers to address design issues and resolve technical problems. Prepare and review equipment specifications and conduct evaluations of emerging technologies and services.

Perform engineering calculations to support design analysis and system improvements. Develop and modify building management system (BMS) code and program system controllers to optimize performance and functionality. Provide regular updates on project status and task progress to internal stakeholders. Maintain accurate records and documentation in Maximo or other asset management systems.

Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.

Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university (ABET accredited) in Mechanical, Structural, or Civil Engineering, with a focus on Utility, Facility, or Asset Management specialty, or related field, required.

Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, preferred.

Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Florida, preferred.

EXPERIENCE

7 years of progressive project engineering experience, including at least 5 years in project management within an engineering environment focused on the design, implementation, and optimization of building environmental systems, required.

Minimum of 7 years of hands‑on experience in building management control systems (BMCS), including system optimization and programming.

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience, preferred.
