Principal Drafting Technician General (NYHELPS) — Rochester, NY Duties Description
This position will be filled in the Design Satellite Squad. General duties may include but are not limited to the following: Prepares CADD drawings for highway and bridge projects. Prepares presentation plans for public meetings and reports. Performs calculations and prepares tables for highway and bridge projects. Assists with the development of the engineer’s estimate. Assists in the gathering and compilation of site data for highway and bridge projects. Reviews plans prepared by the Design Section for compliance with CADD standards. Assists staff within the section with CADD related issues. Other assignments to address office needs. Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations. Base pay range and qualifications
Base pay range $59,994.00/yr - $76,359.00/yr Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). Promotional: To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are: One year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Engineering Geologist, Engineering Materials Analyst, Environmental Engineering Technician 2, Junior Architect, Senior Drafting Technician (all parenthetics), Senior Engineering Technician, or Senior Engineering Technician (Soils). Open Competitive: Either Four years of drafting experience including at least one year of specialized drafting experience on civil engineering projects. A bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction technology, architecture, or architectural technology; An associate's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction technology, architecture, or architectural technology AND two years of drafting experience including one year of specialized drafting experience on civil engineering projects; A certificate in computer-aided drafting issued by a regionally accredited college or university AND two years of drafting experience including at least one year of specialized drafting experience on civil engineering projects. Notes:
Certificates from a Trade or Technical school will be accepted only if it is from an institution that is regionally accredited or recognized by the NYS Department of Education. To check if your certificate is accepted, visit the NYS Department of Education website. The drafting program must be accepted, not just the school. Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. While serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified. Your required educational credentials must have been awarded by an educational institution accredited by a recognized accrediting agency. If awarded by an institution outside the U.S., provide independent verification of equivalency. See the NYS Department of Education site for details. The salary range listed reflects the full range for this graded position. For new State employees appointed into graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate.
