to lead the design, administration, optimization, and reliability of our PostgreSQL database environments. This role is responsible for ensuring high availability, performance, security, and scalability of mission-critical databases across production and non-production systems. Design, deploy, administer, and maintain PostgreSQL databases in production and non-production environments Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, backup, and restore strategies (e.g., replication, failover, point-in-time recovery) Monitor database performance and proactively tune queries, indexes, and configurations Manage database upgrades, patching, and migrations with minimal downtime Implement and enforce database security best practices, including access control, encryption, and auditing Troubleshoot complex database issues and provide root cause analysis Automate routine DBA tasks using scripting and infrastructure-as-code tools Collaborate with application developers to design efficient schemas and queries Support capacity planning, performance benchmarking, and scalability initiatives Document database architectures, standards, and operational procedures Mentor junior DBAs and provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams Required Qualifications
7+ years of experience as a Database Administrator, with a strong focus on PostgreSQL Deep understanding of PostgreSQL internals (MVCC, vacuuming, indexing, query planner) Hands-on experience with replication and high-availability solutions (e.g., streaming replication, logical replication, Patroni, Pgpool-II) Strong experience with backup and recovery tools (e.g., pgBackRest, Barman) Proficiency in Linux/Unix environments Strong SQL skills and experience with performance tuning Experience scripting in at least one language (Bash, Python, or similar) Familiarity with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, pg_stat views, etc.) Preferred Qualifications
Experience managing PostgreSQL in cloud environments (AWS RDS/Aurora, GCP, Azure) Knowledge of containerized and orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes) Experience with configuration management or IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible) Exposure to DevOps and CI/CD practices PostgreSQL certifications or relevant cloud certifications Soft Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent communication and documentation abilities Ability to work independently and lead initiatives Collaborative mindset with a focus on reliability and continuous improvement Seniority level
