Position Purpose Supervises two or more full‑time skilled technicians who perform field maintenance, inspection, installation or repairs in areas such as system protection (line locates and inspections of the distribution system), replacing and installing meters, service (tap) and system connections, inspecting, testing, maintaining and repairing valves, hydrants and back‑flow devices, flushing and flow testing, routine and emergency valve shutouts and inspection and documentation of fire and service line installations.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities

Assigns personnel to shifts and plans daily schedules to provide inspection and testing, service/meter connection installations, valves, hydrants and back‑flow devices.

Coordinates schedule to ensure that field service resources are being utilized to achieve department objectives.

Oversees the human resource functions of the assigned team including hiring, firing, performance appraisals, coaching and counseling.

Recommends and provides input for salary and job change actions.

Works with HSE and training teams to ensure that all personnel receive safety and process training.

Coaches and counsels team to improve technical skills and interpersonal and problem‑resolution skills.

Works to identify and provide opportunities for team to learn new skills and techniques.

Prepares work orders, reports, procurement requisitions and data submittals accurately and timely.

Establishes inspection and maintenance schedules for service lines and replacements.

Assists in diagnosing and evaluating complex equipment and process failures.

Ensures that consistent field service and quality assurance procedures are followed.

Ensures uniform recordkeeping is performed facility‑wide.

Provides leadership in achieving safety goals.

Proactively manages safety and environmental issues and ensures compliance with Federal and State standards, including Hazardous Waste Disposal and Air Quality Standards.

Ensures issues are identified, addressed, and elevated in a timely manner.

Ensures equipment, field service vehicles and work areas are clean and waste is disposed of according to safety and environmental policies.

Operates vehicles for field service purposes.

May occasionally be called upon to fill in or help handle excess field service demands.

Oversees day‑to‑day operations, initiates and communicates personnel actions, and models compliance with all work practices, policies and procedures.

Work Environment

Spends majority of time in field environment, occasionally works in an office, maintenance or repair shop environment.

Typically spends 85% of time exposed to outdoor and sometimes inclement weather.

Company service vehicles are used as required.

May serve rotational 24‑hour emergency on‑call.

Possible work hazards: fumes, dust, toxic and caustic chemicals, noise, rotating machinery, high pressure, hot and cold temperatures, slippery surfaces, water and electrical hazards.

Qualifications Education/Experience/Background

At least five years of experience in a related position in a similar environment with ability to comprehend all specifications, drawings and manuals.

Lead experience or supervisory training required with understanding of human relations, training, performance evaluation and health and safety.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Vocational training with ability to read, write and comprehend English (maps, operational, maintenance, safety and quality instructions) and to give verbal and written instructions.

Ability to perform mathematical calculations.

Mechanical aptitude required, with ability to read, interpret and record data from meters, gauges, panels, computer consoles and other equipment.

Knowledge of current and pending water treatment standards, regulations and federal, state and local laws and codes.

Proficiency in the care and use of all site‑specific, facility‑required PPE, including respirators, gas detectors and confined‑space equipment.

Ability to efficiently inspect, maintain, install and repair any equipment.

Effective troubleshooting, problem‑solving and team‑building skills.

Strong verbal and written communication skills with staff, clients, management and the general public.

PC skills: word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software for preparing reports, charts, graphs and data submittals.

Ability to use computer systems for preparing work orders and purchasing requisitions.

Team orientation and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities.

Availability for 24‑hour emergency on‑call if required.

Commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, Company Code of Business Conduct and other Company policies and procedures.

Knowledge of emerging technologies and systems related to field service operations.

Required Certifications/Licenses/Training

Minimum water/wastewater license as required by regulatory agencies at site.

Valid cross‑connection certification if required at site.

Valid driver’s license (commercial license and heavy equipment operator license desirable) with safe driving record.

Employee Orientation, Departmental Operating Procedures, Safety, OSHA and Quality Training, Supervisory training.

Financial/Budget and Performance Management training.

HAZWOPER Level I and II certification if required by site.

Forklift Certification if required by site.

Advanced functions may be performed as part of training and development.

Physical Requirements

Standing 15%, Walking 70% (up to five miles per shift), Sitting/Driving 15%.

Close visual and hearing observation required to detect non‑conformance and machine malfunction.

Manual dexterity: frequent use of hands, fingers, arms, reaching overhead and below head for up to 40 minutes with hand tools up to 15 lbs.

Work at heights of 50 feet on ladders, catwalks and supports.

Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs (occasionally 60 lbs) over distances of 10 feet.

Occasional stooping, bending, kneeling and confined‑space entry.

Additional Information Pay Range : $90,000 to $100,000 per year.
