Residential Youth Care Specialist, 2nd Shift
Location: Matthews, NC
Thompson was founded in 1886 as an orphanage and has grown into an organization operating across the Carolinas, Florida, Tennessee and Kentucky. Thompson’s continuum of care includes prevention, mental health services and foster care. All programs are trauma‑informed and evidence‑based, with the goal of building resilience in children (ages 0‑18) and their families, both virtually and in person. Description As a Residential Youth Care Specialist you will provide care, supervision, structure, and advocate for youth in an acute, potentially aggressive environment. Your role is to build therapeutic relationships, support treatment plans, and collaborate with a team of professionals to promote positive outcomes.
Schedule
2nd Shift: 7 pm–7 am
Week 1: Monday, Thursday, Friday
Week 2: Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday
Training Mandatory attendance at a 4‑day, 9 am–5 pm Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training program before engaging with clients. All residential staff must pass TCI training and demonstrate proper therapeutic techniques and holds.
Benefits
Starting pay range:
$17.00 – $19.50
per hour

Qualifications
BA/BS Degree in Human Services (strongly preferred); High School diploma/GED with at least two years of relevant youth work experience considered in lieu of a degree
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and excellent written and oral communication skills
Pass drug screening and thorough background check
Physical Requirements Ability to walk, stand, run, lift, and use hands and arms. Must be able to react quickly during emergencies and physically restrain youths if necessary. Reasonable accommodations available.
