Responsibilities Perform the primary functions of a professional nurse, including assessing, planning, directing, and evaluating nursing care for patients. Interact with hospital staff and ancillary departments regarding patient care, concerns, and conflicts, and assist in resolving issues. Operate during shifts without Unit Clerk, Respiratory Therapy, Stroke Team, OB Support, Code Blue support, Phlebotomy, and House Supervisor. Responsibilities for FED Registered Nurses include ventilator management, lab draws (including ABGs), making and answering calls, paging on‑call resources, responding to and activating Code Blue, and housekeeping as needed. Maintain performance skills and work weekends, holidays, evenings, nights, overtime, and/or on‑call/call‑back status.

Qualifications

RN Licensure in the State of Texas.

Willingness to be cross‑trained to other unit areas.

Commitment to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct, including adherence to all policies and procedures and immediate reporting of suspected compliance issues to the Compliance Officer.

Registered Nurse licensed in Texas (or a compact state license or a valid temporary RN license while awaiting a permanent license).

Effective January 6, 2012, possess an Associate Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, or Diploma from a School of Nursing or University.

Accurate completion of required certifications as per the AHA Healthcare Provider’s Program, with ongoing maintenance.

XBCLS/CPR – current upon hire and thereafter.

XACLS – required for FED RN; renew within 12 months (≤1 year experience) or 6 months (>1 year experience).

XPALS – required for FED RN; renew within 12 months (≤1 year experience) or 6 months (>1 year experience).

XNRP – required for FED RN; renew within 12 months (≤1 year experience) or 6 months (>1 year experience).

XTNCC – required for FED RN; renew within 12 months (≤1 year experience) or 6 months (>1 year experience).

XCPI – required for FED RN; renew within 12 months (≤1 year experience) or 6 months (>1 year experience).

Familiarity with basic nursing performance standards as outlined in the TX Nurse Practice Act.

Pass the Medication Assessment within 3 months of joining the department with a score of 90% or greater.
