Job Summary Department: 02270 AMG Aurora Highland Ave - Ophthalmology. Status: Part time. Benefits Eligible: No. Hours per Week: 0. Schedule Details/Additional Information: Registry Tech to help with testing when Department needs arise. Our business hours are M-F 7-5 and Saturdays 7-12, needs could arise for these hours/dates.

Pay Range: $24.85 - $37.30.

Major Responsibilities

Direct Patient Care

Understand the complexity of prescribing glasses for distance, intermediate, near, and astigmatism (refraction/refinement).

Proficiently perform the technical procedure of Manifest Refraction and Refinement.

Complete the 4 steps of refinement: Sphere, Cylinder, Axis, Sphere.

Accurately assess the information provided by the auto-refraction and/or the patient’s current glasses in relation to vision and eye health.

Use the Jackson Cross Cylinder for refining axis.

Fog vision and refine patient to obtain binocular balancing.

Present recommended Rx to the physician based on clinical findings and patient tolerances.

Perform Goldmann Applanation Tonometry to obtain intraocular pressures.

Assess anterior chamber angle depth with the biomicroscope prior to dilating.

May perform fundus photography and/or Ascan biometry.

Indirect Patient Care

Consistently order tests and assist the nurse or provider in communicating results per department protocol or as ordered by physician.

Report abnormal findings, patient complaints, or concerns to Physician, Team Lead, Supervisor, or Nurse when appropriate.

Triage, prioritize, and complete messages, communicating information to patients timely.

Explain procedures and test results using language appropriate to patient’s level of understanding guided by protocols or instructions.

Serve as an advocate and liaison between patients, staff, physicians, and external customers to ensure continuity of care.

Documentation

Provide consistent and accurate documentation of patient info, care, and concerns in the EMR per guidelines.

Consistently complete vouchers, referrals, and requisitions with all appropriate information including medical record number and service codes or using EMR.

Complete all patient documentation within two clinic business days after care/services are provided.

Telephone Communication

Answer the telephone promptly within three rings, transferring calls when appropriate.

Utilize departmental and clinic scripting, including restating information to ensure clarity and accuracy.

Display a courteous, alert, and pleasant tone of voice, speaking clearly and in a relaxed manner.

Transfer calls when appropriate, staying on the line and announcing where and why the call was transferred (except when transferring to an ACD agent).

Communicate effectively with internal and external customers.

Time Management

Consistently watchful of patient flow by keeping rooms clean, stocked, and available and maintaining adequate inventory.

Consistently check equipment and trays for proper functioning and availability during busy times.

Demonstrate flexibility by performing additional duties under direction of licensed nursing staff or the provider.

Education & Experience High School Diploma or GED equivalent. 3-5 years experience in Ophthalmology and demonstrates proficiency in refracting and applanation tonometry.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Good communication skills.

Typing ≥20 wpm preferred.

CPR Certification within 90 days.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Must be able to successfully complete clinic-based training for all associates.

Ability to work with all levels of personnel.

Ability to work under stressful situations.

Frequent periods of extended standing and sitting.

Possible lifting and assisting of patients.

Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance; when >35 pounds, use patient handling equipment with at least one other associate when available.
