The STA Security Manager is a frontline leadership role responsible for supporting, developing, and supervising security personnel across STA’s system. Reporting to the Director of Security, the Security Manager ensures effective daily operations, quality customer interactions, consistent application of established policies, and strong coordination among Transit Ambassadors, Transit Officers, Lead Transit Officers, Security Coordinators, Security Specialists, and contracted security staff. This role is highly people-focused: building strong teams, mentoring staff, reinforcing expectations, and nurturing partnerships with internal departments, community partners, and law enforcement. The Security Manager supports and ensures that the Director’s initiatives are implemented effectively at the operational level.

The Manager is a visible representative of STA security operations and must model the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability.

Examples of Duties

Provide daily leadership, coaching, mentorship, and performance oversight to all security staff.

Foster a team culture built on professionalism, accountability, customer service, and consistent application of policies.

Conduct regular check-ins with employees, provide feedback, support training needs, and ensure staff understand expectations and procedures.

Coordinate and facilitate training, refreshers, and continuing development for security personnel.

Support and reinforce STA’s Core Values and principles in daily interactions and team management.

Provide policy guidance to STA’s Security staff.

Oversee day-to-day field operations to ensure consistent service delivery and response.

Ensure timely, professional, and effective customer interactions and responses to security-related issues and complaints.

Serve as a coordination point between shifts, ensuring continuity, communication, and alignment of expectations.

Maintain productive, professional working relationships with law enforcement, community partners, local businesses, and internal departments.

Ensure processes, policies and practices are interpreted and applied consistently and effectively; ensure accountability and compliance with all current and applicable state and federal laws, STA policies and procedures, and rules and regulations.

Coordinate operational response during incidents and emergencies, guiding staff and ensuring communication with internal and external responders.

Help track operational metrics, assist in identifying trends, and provide input to the Director of Security for system improvements.

Education and Experience Training & Experience At least five (5) years of experience in security operations with Spokane Transit Authority. Must have completed at least two (3) years as a Lead Transit Officer at STA, immediately preceding the application. Experience collaborating with internal departments and community partners is preferred.

Physical Requirements The physical activity of the position requires the ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, feel, and talk. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discrimination in sound. Visual acuity to determine color, depth, and field of vision.

Computer Skills Experience within the Microsoft environment preferred. Ability to quickly understand computer programs is required.

License Must possess a valid driver’s license from the state of residence.

Salary range of $92,849 – $124,428 depending on qualifications
