Overview
Phlebotomist Floater under the direction of the area supervisor performs daily phlebotomy activities of the Patient Service Center (PSC) or In-office Phlebotomy (IOP) accurately and on time. Phlebotomist Floater works assisting with coverage of client locations as needed. Travel is required. The person in this position interacts with the client, patients, and other PathGroup personnel in a professional and courteous manner and performs with confidence, both the forensic and clinical specimen collection and processing duties following established practices and procedures. Ready to travel to a client assignment within a designated region with short notice. Greets customers appropriately. Treat all customers in a courteous manner. Ensures all field phlebotomy and PSC specimens are collected accurately and on time. Collects specimens according to established procedures. Explains venipuncture and other specimen collection processes clearly and courteously. Reduces patient anxiety by providing a calm environment before, during and after the collection process. Disposes of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue in accordance with applicable laws, standards, or policies. Disposes of contaminated sharps per applicable laws and policies. Completes requisitions accurately. Enters patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into computer. Maintains high accuracy. Communicates with clients to confirm handwritten orders, verify tests ordered, and obtain accurate billing information (e.g., diagnosis codes, UPIN). Researches test/client information using the lab computer system. Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test order. Packages specimens for transport. Stores specimens according to required temperature and follows protocol to maintain specimen integrity. Maintains required records and documentation, including PSC/IOP phlebotomy logs. Assists with compilation of monthly statistics and data. Performs basic clerical duties (filing, faxing, and preparing mail). Performs electronic data entry. Approves time in attendance software by noon on the Monday following the end of the pay period. Submits expense and travel logs as directed. Maintains professional conduct and adheres to grooming, dress code, and lab coat policies. Utilizes time effectively to manage fluctuating patient flow. Demonstrates courteous and professional behavior to clients, patients, and co-workers; promotes a cooperative work environment. Answers the telephone professionally, stating the company name and self-identification. Performs duties independently and communicates pertinent information to supervisor or group leader as needed. Contributes to a positive work climate and team effort. Ensures facilities are neat and in good repair; reports repairs as needed. Assists with periodic inventory counts and reports shortages and problems promptly. Uses proper PPE and adheres to laboratory safety procedures and policies. Performs job responsibilities in alignment with industry best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect PHI and sensitive company data. Familiar with and abides by Corporate Compliance Program and all Corporate policies, including Privacy and Security policies. Seniority level
