Responsibilities & Expectations
Service, repair, and maintain diesel and gas engine‑driven standby generators in the field.
Perform preventative maintenance: scheduled services for oil & filter changes, spark plug changes, coolant and filter checks.
Conduct inspections of mechanical and electrical systems.
Clean oil, fuel, and air filters, cooling system, and external unit surfaces.
Carry out load bank testing, automated transfer switch (ATS) and function testing.
Troubleshoot alternators, wiring harnesses, switches, switchgear, battery systems, engines, ATS.
Diagnose failures using multimeters and other meter tools.
Commission and start up: design review, testing, switchgear, programmable control panel, network integration.
Work with brands such as Kohler/Rehlko, CAT, Cummins, Generac, Deere, Onan, MTU, Volvo, Mitsubishi, Detroit Diesel, Asco, Atlas Copco and others up to 2.5 MW.
Provide excellent customer service: communicate problems and solutions clearly to customers.
Document work: complete reports on completed tasks.
Operate company vehicle: travel across local counties, maintain vehicle inventory and safety.
Qualifications and Competencies
Graduation from a technical school in generators, diesel, power generation, electric power, relay, or substation technology is desired.
Mechanical aptitude and experience in repair or maintenance of generators, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Good communication and customer service skills.
At least 3 years of experience operating a vehicle with a valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
A satisfactory driving record and ability to obtain a DOT medical certification.
Availability to service clients after hours and on‑call as needed.
Ability to read and interpret schematics, operating manuals, and safety guidelines.
Physical capability to lift, push, pull, and carry items up to 75 lbs.
Ability to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.
