Position Overview We are seeking experienced Structural Designers to join our team. At Kiewit, we are an innovative team of engineers and designers that supports projects throughout the company. Our staff leads and collaborates with Kiewit’s module fabrication and construction teams to approach construction‑driven engineering with a focus on safe, cost effective, and innovative designs that achieve client expectations and further Kiewit’s legacy of excellence. Your role will be essential to our operations, ensuring that your contributions are valued and impactful within Kiewit Nuclear Solutions.

District Overview Our project portfolio encompasses a full‑service engineering, project management, and construction provider operating across North America. Kiewit Nuclear Solutions offers expertise in carbon‑free small modular reactors, Department of Energy science, environmental and nuclear security mission capabilities. We serve the power utility, renewable energy, industrial, and infrastructure markets, drawing on 135 years of construction and engineering excellence.

Location The primary location for this position is Lenexa, KS. Management may consider alternative supporting locations based on work availability and individual career goals.

Responsibilities

Coordinate with other design group team members to review and exchange project information necessary for design and development.

Check design for consistency, safety, operability, and maintenance requirements before submitting to checking.

Report task progress to Lead Designer.

Gather required information and collaborate with engineers and multiple disciplines to develop BIM models for foundations and steel structures.

Leverage Building Information Modeling (BIM) to create plans, drawings, and details.

Aid in the development of department standards and tools.

Mentor other team members in design and modeling techniques.

Resolve design issues effectively with input from the responsible engineer.

Qualifications

Completion of a vocational training program in Computer‑Aided Design and 5+ years of structural design experience using Tekla or Revit.

Demonstrated ability to interpret multi‑discipline engineering and vendor documents.

Displays leadership and confidence to monitor peers, especially those with less experience in drafting and design.

Basic knowledge of the latest computer operating systems.

Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

Proficiency in Navisworks for design and review clash detection, and basic computing programs including Microsoft Office Suite.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

DOE and Commercial Nuclear experience preferred but not required.

Must be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident.

Must be able to pass a background check.

Must represent Kiewit Engineering & Design Co. professionally to owners, contractors, vendors, and other contacts outside the organization.

Seeks feedback and uses it effectively.
