We have a mission that matters!**Description of Work**This position is located at Roanoke River Correctional Institution in Halifax County, NC.**Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences****Salary Range: $37,782.00 - $66,120.00**Work in this class involves assisting the Correctional Housing Unit Manager II in the management and operation of an institutional housing unit within a medium and minimum custody prison facility. Responsibilities may also include management of a medium and minimum custody facility.
The main duties of the Correctional Housing Unit Manager I is the supervision and scheduling of Correctional Sergeants to include providing guidance, instruction, and assistance to the Correctional Sergeants who are the first line of supervision for correctional staff.
Employees are responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the unit case management system which entails providing individual counseling, participating in group sessions, and maintaining reports relating to the inmate's progress through the institution. This position also serves on a variety of institutional classification committees, conducts internal investigations regarding inmate disciplinary and grievance responses, complete custody reviews, inmate job assignments, and responds to emergency situations within the unit.
This position reports to a Correctional Housing Unit Manager II and in their absence assumes responsibility for the overall management of the unit. **Minimum Education and Experience**Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both. See the Education and Experience Equivalency Guide for details.High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of correctional experience, one of which must have been at the supervisory level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
