Mechanical Inspector – Athens, MI

SAFEbuilt is seeking a Mechanical Inspector to join our team. Relocation assistance is available. The role offers competitive wages and a comprehensive benefits package. Job Responsibilities

Perform field inspections during various stages of construction. Review plans and specifications for commercial, industrial, and residential projects to ensure compliance with city, state, and federal laws and regulations. Perform rental housing inspections in accordance with municipal ordinances and regulations. Report violations and maintain files/records. Perform other related duties as required. Skills & Knowledge

Extensive knowledge of local mechanical building codes and current construction procedures and technology. Interpretation of codes in the field and ability to provide code‑compliant solutions. Positive interaction with staff, public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clientele. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good time management, organization, and attention to detail. Initiative and independent judgment. Prioritization and execution of assignments with limited supervision. Ability to work on several tasks simultaneously. Education & Experience

Michigan Mechanical Inspector certification required. OR hold a mechanical contractor license from the state of Michigan in 3 of the 4 following categories for at least 1 year: Hydronic heating and cooling and process piping; HVAC equipment; Refrigeration; Fire suppression. OR 6 years of experience under a licensed mechanical contractor who can attest to performance in 3 of the 4 categories listed above. Additional Michigan inspector certifications are a plus. Experience in municipal code inspections preferred. Valid driver’s license with a good driving record required. Physical, Vision, Hearing, and Manual Dexterity Requirements

Physical:

Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, crawling, or kneeling; ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and unfinished stairways; occasional lifting of up to 25–50 pounds. Vision & Hearing:

Visual acuity sufficient to read construction plans and detect safety hazards; hearing sufficient to communicate in noisy environments. Manual Dexterity:

Use of hands and fingers to handle tools, operate inspection equipment, and use computers/tablets for reporting. Work Environment

Field and office settings. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions and construction site environments. Frequent driving between inspection sites within a region. Compensation & Benefits
