Job Description The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventive maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Technician II can conduct more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. A successful Technician II complies with all company policies and achieves high performance metrics.
DUTIES
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment: electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment, including electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, air‑conditioning systems, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
Identify problems, determine relevance of information, and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
Manage parts inventory on company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
Work with clients to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
Prioritize concurrent tasks and allocate time effectively.
Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lift devices, and jacks.
Document work in Repair Orders (“RO”) using company‑issued iOS devices and the TRAIT application.
Complete DOT forms and all required documentation promptly.
Work independently and manage own daily schedule.
Maintain high productivity and meet standard repair times.
Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed.
Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates and discuss findings.
Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required duties.
Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical or provide a valid DOT medical card with >4 months remaining.
Be at least 21 years old and hold a valid state driver’s license with the ability to maintain a Driver Qualification File.
Safe driving record required.
