Responsibilities of Controller

Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards, nonprofit accounting principles and regulatory requirements.

Ensure that internal controls and safeguards are in place for monitoring and managing revenues, expenses and capital expenditures.

Lead the month‑end close process, reconcile monthly financial activity and maintain special funds.

Oversee the organization’s cash balances and cash flow forecasting.

Manage day‑to‑day relationships with banks, agencies and other external parties.

Mitigate potential financial risks by researching and developing alternatives to current financial practices and systems.

Serve as lead for the annual audit process including financial statements, single audit, retirement plan and IRS Form 990.

Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes.

Create and distribute financial actuals to budget reports to leadership and budget owners; develop corrective action plans as needed.

Prepare financial projections as necessary.

Assist leadership in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare actual results with a view to identifying, explaining, and correcting variances as appropriate.

Compile and submit financial plans and reports as required by state, local, federal and private funders.

Facilitate the resolution of finance‑related matters with internal and external parties in a constructive manner.

Develop the ability of others to contribute to the organization by providing ongoing feedback and opportunities to learn through formal and informal methods.

Develop objectives, prioritize and implement plans consistent with the long term interest of the organization.

Inspire and foster team commitment, spirit, pride and trust. Facilitate cooperation and motivate team members to accomplish group and individual goals.

Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Preferred Experience of Controller

Bachelor’s degree is highly preferred with at least 5 years of accounting experience

Non‑profit experience is preferred, but not required

Knowledge and skills in MS Office, accounting software and payroll systems.

Working knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit and fund accounting.
