What Will You Do The Advanced Electric Power Generation (EPG)/Switchgear Technician is responsible for installation, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repair, and service of diesel powered standby electrical generation equipment. This skilled field service technician works largely independently from a company‑provided field service truck at diverse customer locations, including industrial, commercial, hospital, and residential sites.

Works a standard five‑day schedule with occasional overtime and weekend hours as needed.

Has a current, valid driver’s license and motor vehicle liability insurance.

Basic Qualifications

Power Generation Technology or Power Production and Maintenance training through accredited schools or military experience preferred (high school diploma required).

At least two years of hands‑on electrical diagnostics and advanced troubleshooting experience on 8.5 kW–2,500 kW diesel generators; strong engine experience acceptable.

Willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and on‑call hours, and independently in remote locations.

Professionalism, integrity, adaptability, and strong customer‑service focus.

Sense of urgency, self‑initiative, and a personal drive to succeed.

Excellent communication skills.

Current state driver’s license with a valid DOT medical card for towing.

Basic industrial toolset, including hand tools, air tools, torque wrenches, and multimeters.

Travel up to 20 % within the territory.

Capability to operate a megohmmeter and a micro‑ohmmeter.

Knowledge of isochronous governing, basic voltage regulation, KW and amperage calculation for load banking, cable layout for load banking, circuit breaker operation, gaseous fuel train operation, battery basics, block heater operation, two‑wire remote start operation, and basic power factor concepts.

Advanced/Switchgear Requirements

In-depth understanding of isochronous governing, voltage regulation, frequency, voltage biasing, phase rotation/sequencing, paralleling, circuit breaker operation, protective relay operation and testing, arc‑flash label identification.

Proficiency in KW, KVA, KVAR, and power‑factor relationships.

Proficient in TCP/IP and MODBUS RS‑485 communications.

Experience with ATS operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
