This position is part of the Labor Commissioner's Office within the Public Information Unit (PIU). The PIU serves as the subject matter expert in various Labor Commissioner’s Office (LCO) program areas, providing dedicated consultation services to the public on the phone or in-person (walk‑in assistance or appointments) at a local district office regarding newly filed claims, applications, and reports of labor law violations. The PIU also prepares and completes referrals and recommendations to the relevant program area, and coordinates and leads intake workshops or clinics.

Responsibilities
Conduct intake consultation assessments with the public for various programs within the LCO.
Serve as the initial point of contact during the intake process, ensuring a smooth transition for those seeking guidance and assistance on submitting claims, complaints, applications, or reports filed by the public.
Develop and prepare documented referrals to other units.
Educate the public on labor laws and assess potential violations of liable employers in various claim and report processing.
Utilize Spanish language proficiencies to communicate with monolingual parties, witnesses, or stakeholders when Spanish is the primary language.
Coordinate and lead intake workshops or clinics.
Qualifications
Fluency in Spanish (must pass an approved language fluency test if no official record exists).
Must take and pass the new Labor Compliance Representative (LCR) exam issued on December 15, 2025.
Eligible for appointment as a Labor Compliance Representative (classification has been renamed from Industrial Relations Representative).
Minimum qualifications as listed in the Classification Specification(s).
Special Requirements
The Position requires fluency in Spanish. If designee does not have a current record of fluency, they must pass an approved language fluency test prior to hiring.
A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required. Submit a typed SOQ no longer than one page, responding to the following prompts: 1) Describe a time you used your Spanish language skills to assist a member of the public. 2) What was the specific situation and what was the outcome of your assistance?
Resumes and/or cover letters do NOT replace the SOQ. Applications lacking a SOQ will be excluded from consideration.
Location and Working Conditions 7575 Metropolitan Dr., San Diego, CA 92108.
This is a high‑volume, fast‑paced office that handles wage claims and consistently interfaces with the public. May travel to assist other offices with conducting conferences. The incumbent typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone, and other office equipment as needed. Noise level typical of an office. Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the workday.
