An Architect should aim to achieve design excellence by assisting in the creation of designs that are both appropriate and in line with the companies design philosophy. The role involves ensuring that a building’s design intent is fully conveyed by means of any and all appropriate documentation required. The design should fully consider the project brief, site, best architectural practices and local codes and authority to approve in accordance with the companies QA / QC procedures.
About the Role
Understand and properly implement the design principles of projects
Ensure proper coordination between disciplines and sub-consultants
Provide a complete set of documents in accordance with the project brief and in consideration of the local codes and approval authorities
Initiate study and analyse design related issues with regards to spatial organization and efficient utilization of spaces and /or of the functional arrangement of interior units, utilities and appurtenances etc.
Complete awareness of the project contracts, schedules, and deliverables
Ensure and implement cost awareness during the design process
Ensure that all drawings, documents and specifications are done in accordance with the companies QA/QC procedure
Ensure proper compilation, filing and archiving of documents for each stage submissions as per the standard company procedure
Ensure constant awareness of current construction and design trends through continue professional development (CPD)
Key Responsibilities 1. Concept Stage
Engage in project research and assist the project leader in compiling a preliminary project report
Research local codes relevant to project when required
Study and prepare detailed sketches or layouts of intricate or fundamental portions that illustrate aspects of the architectural plans that are proposed or already adopted
Assist in investigating the client brief in terms of options, alternatives and possibilities
Play an active role in the preparation of presentation material
Ensure all reports, drawings and specifications are done in line with company standards
2. Scheme Design Stage
Provide a complete set of documents as required in the design stage
Coordinate with engineers in relation to the proper execution of designs in accordance to MEP and structural requirements when required
Coordinate and submit drawings and documents required for the approval of local authorities
Study and analyse design related issues with regards to spatial organization and efficient utilization of spaces and/or of the functional arrangement of interior units, utilities and appurtenances etc.
Thoroughly interrogate concept design for practicality, build-ability and workability
Ensure that the design intent of the concept design is understood by all team members and so that it may both be followed and further enhanced during scheme design to create a harmonious and integrated design
3. Detail Design Stage
Prepare a complete a set of drawings and specifications in conformance to company standards
Develop the design of exterior, facades, ornamental work and other areas with vital effect to the project
Coordinate with MEP, structural engineers and other disciplines as required in the project
Coordinate with sub-consultants (e.g. QS, Landscape Architects, BMU Consultants, Specialty Contractors) as required in the project
Assure that all drawings and specifications conform to the local codes and authorities
Follow the design progression of the building(s) to ensure that the design intent is followed and enhanced
Coordinate with all disciplines and the project coordinator to assist in design changes that may arise during these stages
4. Tender Stage
Provide a complete set of documents as required in the tender documents package
Address and provide response to tender queries
Update the drawings as per the necessary revisions required
5. Contract Stage
Provide a complete set of documents as required for the contract stage assuring that all drawings and specifications are up to date and in conformance to company standards
Check the documentation for design intent to ensure a full and clear design is passed on to the contractor
6. Post Contract Stage
Address and coordinate with post contract team for any un-resolved issues
Conduct periodic site visits as required in the contract if applicable
What do we need from you Education and Training
Degree educated – RIBA Parts 1, and/or 2 or equivalent
Registered architect – ARB or equivalent in country of origin
RIBA or equivalent membership preferred
Excellent design skills
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Photoshop and 3D Max
Excellent command of written and spoken English
Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese are highly desirable
Experience
At least 4 years’ experience
Previous experience in high-rise building design and construction is advantageous
Previous experience in an office environment working as part of a team is preferred
Personal Qualities
An enthusiasm for design and the built environment
An ambitious personality, capable of achieving
Pro-active in turning up solutions to design related issues and can provide quick manual sketches for better understanding of proportions, spatial arrangements, etc
Able to multi-task and work independently and without supervision
Ability to delegate work laterally to other members of the team as required
Detail oriented with a strong attention to detail
Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
Able to work as part of a team and to motivate others
This is an office based role, with occasional travel needed.
