We are looking for an
Estate Recovery Specialist
who will seek recovery of healthcare costs paid by Medicaid from estates following federal and state regulations. Opens and maintains department Estate Recovery cases following approved department procedures. Under limited supervision, communicates with personal representatives, attorneys, family members, probate court personnel both orally and in writing. Review requests for information from family member(s), personal representative, attorney(s) and probate court personnel; respond appropriately in accordance with the department's policies and procedures. Monitors case follow‑ups daily to keep current. Responsible for filing claims and actions with Probate Courts and collecting Medicaid expenditures from estates. Researches tax documents, online records and other documents to determine estate values in order to prepare Estate Recovery demand packages for those cases that have not been received in probate. Attends Probate Court hearings. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. The South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services offers an exceptional benefits package for FTE and TGE positions that includes:

A bachelor's degree and relevant professional experience in social service programs, business administration, general administrative management or relevant program experience is required. Lifting requirements: 20 lbs. Valid driver's license. Familiarity with Probate Court systems and documents. Case management. Strong Communication skills. Ability to understand legal documents such as deeds, petitions and other Judicial Indexes. Attention to detail in reviewing documents and managing deadlines. Knowledge of laws, regulations and policies pertinent to Estate Recovery and probate. Knowledge of the policies and procedures relating to Medicaid.
